The huge Wall Street investment bank JP Morgan has announced it will freeze political campaign donations to Republican members of Congress who voted to contest Joe Biden's Presidential election victory.

    https://www.reuters.com/world/us/ex...iving-freezes-out-republicans-who-2021-06-04/

It appears to be an attempt to put pressure on Republican lawmakers, since these campaign donations are very important.
The big Wall Street investment banks are an important source of political campaign money for members of Congress up for reelection.

It sends a message "We will boycott you, if you dare not to be a moderate Republican".

Big commercial banks spent $14.6 million on donations to federal candidates in the 2020 election cycle.

JPMorgan Chase & Co will resume making political donations to U.S. lawmakers but will not give to Republican members of Congress who voted to overturn President Joe Biden's election victory.

The country's largest lender was among many big corporations that paused political giving following the January 6 Capitol riots when supporters of former president Donald Trump tried to stop Congress from certifying the election.

Just hours later, 147 Republicans, the vast majority of them in the House of Representatives, voted to overturn the Electoral College results which Trump claimed were tainted by fraud.

JPMorgan will now resume giving through its Political Action Committee (PAC) but will continue its freeze on donations to a "handful" of the 147 lawmakers whom it had previously supported, the bank said.

This all seems to be part of a wider strategy of using a reward & punishment approach to try to push Republican members of Congress towards more moderate stances and turning them into flimsy pushovers who will avoid opposing the Democrats on certain key important issues.

I see a very similar pattern here to how the Communist Chinese government tries to bully dissidents in its population, tolerating criticism but just not on certain topics they feel are especially sensitive.

Sounds like a good reason to get money from big corporations out of politics. Perhaps Republicans should reach out to Democrats and see what they can work out....OK, no chance that happens. GOPers want to complain about big businass not giving them money rather than deal wiht the problem of too much money in politics.

Going by Pravda postings, the US has been collapsing since the early 2000s, yet somehow here we are and still going strong.

This should be obvious to all intelligent people [regardless of their personal politics.]

Below are quotes from Freud's nephew, Edward Bernays who is called the father of propaganda [he literally wrote the book on it] and helped President Wilson sell WW1 to the masses... the war Wilson said would make the world safe for democracy.

Propaganda is the executive arm of the invisible government

    *
Whatever of social importance is done today, whether in politics, finance, manufacture, agriculture, charity, education, or other fields, must be done with the help of propaganda.

    *

No serious sociologist any longer believes that the voice of the people expresses any divine or specially wise and lofty idea. The voice of the people expresses the mind of the people, and that mind is made up for it by the group leaders in whom it believes and by those persons who understand the manipulation of public opinion. It is composed of inherited prejudices and symbols and cliches and verbal formulas supplied to them by the leaders.

    *

The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. ...We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. This is a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized. Vast numbers of human beings must cooperate in this manner if they are to live together as a smoothly functioning society. ...In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons...who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind.

YOU remind me of another famous quote:

    There Are None So Blind
As Those Who Will Not See.

    Or as the Bible says...

    Hear now this, foolish people
    who are without understanding;
    which have eyes, and see not;
which have ears, and hear not

    Jeremiah 5:21

That reminds me of Asterix's strange topic he posted on Pravda the day before Halloween 2015.

How Do You Hide a Blue Elephant on a Halloween Morning ?

Most would think Asterix was crazy... but that Halloween morning a Russian jet mysteriously crashed in the desert near where jews and allies were conducting an international air force military exercise called, "Blue Flag"

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metrojet_Flight_9268

    "Blue Flag” exercise

Israel hosts its largest-ever international air force exercise

Israeli, American, Greek, and Polish air personnel square off against a fictional enemy state in two-week drill

    October 30, 2015

" Air forces from around the world have gathered deep in the Arava desert in the south of Israel for the past week and a half to take part in the largest aerial exercise in the history of the Israeli Air Force.

The Blue Flag exercise, which is continuing through November 3, pits the Israeli Air Force, the United States Air Force, Greeces Hellenic Air Force and the Polish Air Force against a fictional enemy state, the captain in charge of all IAF exercises told The Times of Israel Thursday night. "

Those big investment banks give about equally to both the Democrats and Republicans. I mean each individual bank.

One kind of has to wonder why a single bank would give to both political sides. I mean, if you wanted one Party to win, you would only give to one side.
Unless they are trying to ingratiate themselves to members of Congress, hoping that their money will gain some influence.

Looks like it was a targeted boycott organized by multiple huge corporations.

Morgan Stanley (large investment bank) is suspending all PAC contributions to members of Congress who did not vote to certify the results of the Electoral College, a spokesman said.

Marriott (large hotel chain) said it would pause donations from its PAC "to those who voted against certification of the election," a spokeswoman told DealBook. She did not say how long the break would last or how the hotel chain would decide when to resume donations.

The chemicals giant Dow said it was suspending all PAC contributions "to any member of Congress who voted to object to the certification of the presidential election." The suspension will last for one election cycle - two years for representatives and up to six years for senators.

AT&T, one of the biggest political campaign contributors in the United States, said in a statement on Monday that its political action committee had decided to suspend contributions to members of Congress who voted against the certification of Electoral College votes last week.

Speaking of Chinese-style shakedowns, why here is a Republican Governor suing yet another bank for refusing to loan him even more money than the $368M he already owes them in addition to the $700M he personally owes another bank. Sound like a Trump move if ever there was one.

So shakedowns only happen to republicans, and not by republicans, huh?
