Ok don, no offense but it's probably you that do not understand Rands philosophy. One of the flaws in Rand is not everyone is capable of understanding and more so living by her philosophy. Even though I believe in the tenets of objectivism I do not fully live by them. It is helpful in everyday life to be aware and use that as a cornerstone for decision making.
If what you know of Rand has been learnt on the left wing blogs I understand your confusion. Fear not, I think the world will never embrace objectivism as a philosophy to live by. We've gone to far in the opposite direction for most folks to understand much less adapt to that kind of responsibility for ones self.
Nonetheless it's nice to know what's happening and why in this world. Solace like that cannot be given by a parent state.
