As a taxpayer I am again outraged at the waste of my tax dollars. But nobody in Congress cares and I am sure the President could not care less. Nikola Motor Co, remember that name. They most certainly did prevent other companies from getting funds; "The billionaire founder of Nikola Motor Co., which received $4 million in Paycheck Protection Program funds, said he doesn’t plan to give the money back and didn’t prevent small-businesses from getting loans." https://www.cnbc.com/2020/04/24/billionaires-company-got-4-million-from-coronavirus-sba-fund.html
But trump said “I'll be the oversight”, strange... Any company with over 500 employees, that are publicly traded or have a market cap of more than 500M need to be finned double what they received and barred from any aid indefinitely.
I think it's possible you people may be overreacting here. If the company was big enough (but still considered a small company relative to other big corporate businesses), why shouldn't it get $4 million? The fact that the owner is a billionaire is kind of irrelevant. Do the funds prevent workers from getting laid off? How can you give something to small businesses without giving the same to larger businesses too? Maybe you need to think mathematically and logically there.
I'm not clear over exactly what you're outraged by? I mean, the article is carefully spun to generate outrage but I'm not convinced the actual details necessarily justify it?
As mentioned in other threads, this was expected. Free money for some paperwork is too sexy to resist
Maybe if you would actually read the terms of the PPP you might learn that it was perfectly legal and moral. You do realize it's a program based on the number of employees?
I’m glad some companies are giving the money back that really didn’t “need” it. And that’s the point. I don’t like the idea of bailouts but it was the govt that has cause all these small businesses to lose their shirts, forcing the shutdown. So paying them now to get them through it has some logic.
I'm fine if some return it, but they had no legal obligation, it was more about saving face than anything and only a small portion of the companies that did the same thing are being called out. I know several that havent lost a dime but applied anyway but most are in the queue. How many retirees are returning their stimulus check because they didnt "need" it? Same issue with them. They just aren't being called out.
Oversight, yeah sure. Freedom Works filed for 300K small business loan. Seriously, taxpayer money for a political organization?
Churches and business not even impacted by the virus are all eligible for the free money. So why not — pilfering of the treasury isn’t new
