That's it? He's vowed to bring down the costs? Companies say that when the going gets tough. It doesn't seem right for a second.

He's going to use thick aluminum foil on the control surfaces and WWII radios for communications.

Good thing. As soon as they work on a governmental contract, firms usually hike up the prices in an exaggerate manner - makes people do "ooohhh!" and "ahhh!" figuring that the stuff is really exclusive, but in reality what we get is corruption.

It's time it ceased. If it is Trump doing it, that's because the others before him didn't.

PS: About these F-35... Trash them all and buy some Rafales instead.

I know a guy who's in, let's just call it construction. He get calls a couple times of year to do work on government buildings. He quotes them double what he would a private business and to my knowledge he's never lost a bid for a government contract.

Only a liberal would find saving tax dollars a bad thing. Unlike the fecal swamp in Washington DC, it's so easy for them to spend taxpayer money, when they have no personal commitment

Liberal? Please I'm an anarchist. As far as I'm concerned, good for them. I'll congratulate Trump when it actually gets done.

Didn't obama pay something like $10 million for some geek to build the ACA website? The same one that didn't even work at first? You could have paid a developer a few thousand for a working product.

Any idea how much profit there is in a $4 billion dollar sale? For a guy from the party who hates corporations and their huge profits I thought this would make your day.

Do you? I'm an independent.... I have no problem with profits, my main concern is the market share.

Trump is not an ideologue, he's a pragmatist, and whatever it takes to make America great again is why I voted for him. Trump is the exact opposite of Obama

    - - - Updated - - -

Liberal math is void of reality when someone like Obama is spending our hard earned money.

The list price of a 747 is about $350 million. Doubling the price doesn't make it twice as airworthy, it just makes it more reliable than a plane you or I woujld flyh on and has better amenities. Much of the equipment on the plane isn't provided by Boeing, it's comes from other contractors the defense department uses. The price tag for the two jets is actually $3.1 billion, or the price of almost 9 regular 747s.

Boeing is in a good spot here; no other US company can build such a large plane and no US president is going to tool around in an Airbus frame. Boeing can pull out whatever number they want and the people signing the checks won't care because it's not their money.

Until, now. It sounds like Trump shamed Boeing into building an "affordable" AF1.

And he's not even President yet.

    Awesome.

It is awesome and I wouldn't mind spending an extra buck or two to build the best plane possible just for American prestige, but I don't want to just throw money away.

That would explain why I was thinking the price was around $3.25 billion.

Yeah it's their money. They still pay taxes. They don't seem to care as much because they're playing a different game than the one we're seeing. Simple as that.

Your misconception is noted. Obama is an ideologue, as is most of the Washington elite, Trump is a mover and shaker, something ideologues like you hate

Building a pair of new Air Force One's will take many years. An immediate change Trump can make is replacing the $1,500,000 presidential limos with $20,000 Ford Escorts for him and his family.

I'm sure there are many people in Russia who will be glad to scoop up the replaced limos.

You do understand that 1.5m for a daily driver isn't the same thing as a 4.6B vehicle that gets a few hundred hours on it right?

I mean... this is not a post I would highlight as making you look particularly brilliant.

A lot of different numbers are being tossed around, let's go with this report...
    http://www.geekwire.com/2016/boeing-ceo-air-force-one-f-35-trump/
After meeting with President-elect Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg says he’s making a “personal commitment” to keep the cost of the next two Air Force One jets below $4 billion.

    A stock off the shelf 747-8 is around $400,000,000. A Boeing Presidential 747 is $2,000,000,000. That's a 5 to 1 markup.
A stock off the shelf high end Cadillac is $100,000. A Presidential Cadillac limo is $1,500,000. That's a 15 to 1 markup.

You do understand that in the event of a serious problem, the President isn't going to be driven around in the limo. He is going to be in a bunker or he is going to be in AF-1.

My point was that the Boeing contract does not affect Trump. The new AF-1's will not be ready during his presidency. His daily rides do affect him.

In any case, this is all just more posturing on his part. Save a few bucks on AF-1's and spend tons on new nukes (as if the old ones weren't enough to kill everything a few times over).
