Why in the hell would you make a disease with a 80% kill rate? In an American location!!!!! What in the hell is wrong with people?

Am I the only one concerned about this?

I am not against doing research into viruses. They are making real progress on cancer using viruses.

I do think they should just set up some international organization on Antarctica to do joint research though.

If it wasn't for Libel FAUX would consist of nothing but blowsy-looking women staring blankly and Scott Hannity doing oral sex on Trump.

Not every false story results in libel. Not every libelous act is worth suing over.

I read this yesterday. My first response was, I thought "gain of function" was illegal as a pursuit in the US. Lock these F'ers up.

I will point out two things. First BU carefully avoided the reconstructed strain architecture and it's results in mice models which was covered in the original article at the Daily News. Second, the lab, as noted by BU is only level 3 which is approximately the same level the Wuhan lab was supposed to conform to, but didn't.

Using the strain that was identified may or may not actually be the strain released by the Wuhan lab, and the conclusion that was made about lethality is not cited within the BU response. They simply took umbrage to having been called on the carpet for their evil and couldn't understand the public outcry from it. It's like conversations between Fauci et al and say Rand Paul. Paul of course is right, but folks, like Fauci use the vague to gloss over their own evil.

If the research as declared in the actual study created a far more able mechanism for the washington strain, the is, by definition gain of function. Of course BU is "denying that"... They actually didn't if you read the carefully parsed response. it is sad that little monsters like this research team get to continue to be awarded tax dollars for these little skunk works projects, and are horrified when their efforts are publicly exposed as the vile evil they actually are.

So, and I will just ask this question knowing full well how the lefties will respond to this, compare this "BU denies the allegation" response and dutiful acceptance there of and compare it to say how they deal with unsubstantiated attacks on their political enemies who deny them, and of course their faithful continue to flog it anyway. The double standard is insane.

Boston University issued a statement Tuesday defending its research of a COVID-19 Omicron strain when they took the variant’s spike protein and attached it to the original COVID-19 strain, leading to a higher mortality rate in a certain species of mice, triggering concern among lawmakers.

“The Omicron S-bearing virus robustly escapes vaccine-induced humoral immunity, mainly due to mutations in the receptor-binding motif… while Omicron causes mild, non-fatal infection, the Omicron S-carrying virus inflicts severe disease with a mortality rate of 80 percent,” the preprint study said.

One lawmaker, Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), said that the research entailed “lethal gain of function virus research” that creates the “potential to kill more people than any singular nuclear weapon.” Marshal, a doctor, added that “viruses have managed to escape even the most secure labs” and said such “research must stop immediately while the risks and benefits can be investigated.”

Meanwhile, Emily Erbelding, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases’s division of microbiology and infectious diseases, told Stat News that the Boston University’s grant application didn’t specify that researchers wanted to perform this work and the group did not say it was performing experiments to possible enhance a COVID-19 variant. An investigation is now underway, she said.

I am curious if vaccinated people would still die from this at those rates of if it would be lowered significantly.

    Interesting

Or maybe just stop letting people like Rogan divert millions that could be spent to cure leukemia.

Aren't there LAWS that could be passed here? Used to be we'd catch up to these guys about 5 miles out of town, give their wagon and money to some widow, and then send them on their way wearing tar and feathers. Now we call local tv and they end up on the 12 o'clock news. That's not progress IMO.

Hopefully to design vaccines for it as well as remind China that “Yeah. We can play, too.”

    BTW, from the Enwolf link:
    Sounds like Fox got shived.
