I hope Lula can save what's left of the Amazon rain forest?!! The Brazilian Trump, Bolsonaro was destroying the Amazon too?!! I wonder like Trump, will he refuse to accept the will of the people and not concede?!!

    CNN —
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is set to become the next president of Brazil.

The leftist former President, widely known as “Lula,” has gained 50.83% of the votes, with over 98% of the votes counted in a fiercely contested run-off election on Sunday.

It was a tight race, with incumbent Jair Bolsonaro being denied a second term as he mustered 49.17% votes.

The two candidates had previously gone head to head in a first round of voting on October 2, but neither gained more than half of the votes, forcing Sunday’s runoff vote, which has become a referendum on two starkly different visions for Brazil.

More than 156 million people were eligible to vote in this year’s election. The candidates themselves voted early on Sunday, with Lula voting at a public school in the São Paulo metro Area and Bolsonaro casting his ballot in Rio de Janeiro early on Sunday morning.

Wearing a yellow and green T-shirt, the colors of the Brazilian flag, Bolsonaro said “God willing, we’ll be victorious later today.

Or even better, Brazil will be victorious,” as he voted at a polling station in the Marechal Hermes district of the city.

Lula da Silva supporters thronged São Paulo Avenida Paulista on Sunday evening after polls closed. The mood was celebratory even before the results were called, with street-side vendors selling beer and food.

    Congrats President Lula!

Court ruled him wrongly convicted. With all the crying about our DOJ and fbi, you’d think republicans would be more open minded about criminal convictions anyway….

He is until he gets convicted. Certainly more innocent right now than all the convicted felons that worked on the trump campaign.

Persecution vs. protected assets. You are on the wrong side of justice, as usual. Still happy you voted for the basement dummy? lol

    I agree.

They got chaos & 700,000 COVID dead from Bolsonaro.

When Lula was last in charge they got a successful economy & reduction in poverty. I think that is what Brazilians deserve.

True, but why did they change from a reasonably successful system to their version of fascism in the first place, like the US did in 2016?? That's the disconnect that needs to be solved worldwide...going from things that are working to things that are guaranteed to not work...

I’m not confused at all, fascism is absolutely a leftist trait. The opinion you posted is noted, but incorrect. It’s the left as of the last couple decades pushing fascism.

So this post^ is either a symptom of you NOT knowing your right from your left or more likely, desperate intentional gaslighting?! Rhetorical BTW..

The 'reasonably successful system' stopped being as successful. Lula's successor was unpopular and while she was hnest, there was corruption within her government that eroded her popularity. She also changed some economic policies to the detriment of the economy. In the end the real killer was the Lava Jato corruption scandal, which was big even by Brazilian standards (which makes it VAST by western standards). This dramatically undermined support for the mainstram parties & allowed a nutter like Bolsonaro to use his 'outsider' image to pose as a cleanskin. he wasn't, but that became clear only after.

As for 'Brazil's version of Fascism'....possibly not. That already happened at various times courtesy of the military. If Bolsonaro stages a coup then maybe. If not then he failed fascism 101.

You are projecting, your inability to recognize what fascism is, and where it’s at is not my fault. It’s absolutely a leftist trait.
