"Exposing" -- is that the right word for it? I was under the impression that most of the non-normal gender stories were explanatory, and promote tolerance for those few of us who are "different."

Are you claiming that some of these children's books include porn? I'm not being sarcastic and I'm not baiting you. I'm trying to point out that for nearly all of these books, the right's response is overkill. Kids are not being forced to read smut, or even strictly adult content.

If parents would be more involved in their children's lives, it would help. Pay attention to what they read, what they're learning, how they interact with their peers, ask them about their day. If something triggers your concern, speak to the school/teacher about it before shouting, waving fists, and banning perfectly good books.

Yeah, parents are busy ... but so was I, and I was a single parent. I knew what my kid was reading, watching, and learning because that was part of my job as a parent.

 

Brian Hague is a favorite author of mine. His dad, Alexander Hague, was a General and Secretary of State. Brian is a West Point classmate of mine.... a good guy and talented writer.

As a parent, I don't want my four year old to see sexual explicit materials. Period. I'm glad he's not that young anymore and it's not a worry.

"Porn" is a very vague term. But I agree with Supreme court Justice Stewart who said, "I know it when I see it". Forcing kids to read it isn't the issue. No one "forces" kids to get measles. But we spend a lot of time and energy making sure they don't get infected.

I agree that parents should be more involved with their children's lives. I spent most of my professional life in defense, in and out of uniform. But I spent two years teaching high school. I was amazed at how many parents seemed uncaring and greatly appreciated the parents that tried to help.

 

Alexander Hague? We used to call him Bombs Away Hague back in the day. He tried to assert control from under the VPs nose when Reagan was shot. Interesting fellow.

Banning books is censorship. I'm 100% against censorship.

 

Keeping books with graphic portrayals of pedophilia, bestiality, etc. out of the hands of children is a GOOD idea.

Typical... She learned from the Palin playbook. After getting caught misrepresenting her child trafficking story, trying to link it to Biden's policies, she's claiming it's the fault of the liberal media that are out to get her. These people can never own up to their mistakes, unlike normal grown ups. Trump has trained her well. It's always someone else's (I.e. liberal's) fault.
