Bus Touring Obama Goes After GOP Presidential Hopefuls By Frank James | NPR | Aug. 15, 2011 6:40 pm President Obama's Midwest bus trip is part listening tour to show that he's concerned about the problems of actual Americans, part rolling bully pulpit that gives him a chance to make the case for compromise (and to blame congressional Republicans for not doing enough on that score.) But it also was a chance to try and score a few points on the would-be Republican nominees. Obama took Republican presidential candidates to task for that moment at the Iowa debate in which all the participants on stage said as president they would reject any deficit-reduction deal that would raise taxes, even an approach in which spending cuts would outweigh tax increases 10 to 1. ** I know its not election season yet but I just have to mention the debate the other party candidates were having the other day when they were asked to reduce our deficit, reduce our debt, would you be willing to take a deal where it was $5 of spending cuts for every $1 of increased revenues, who would take it? Everybody said No. They said how about 10 to 1? Ten dollars of cuts for every dollar increase in revenue? Are you saying that none of you would take it and everybody raised their hand. None of them would take it. Think about that. I mean, thats just not common sense. Mitt Romney was one of those Republican candidates on the debate stage in Ames, Iowa, who indicated he wouldn't raise taxes. A question about a recent federal appeals court decision that concluded that the new health care law is unconstitutional gave Obama a chance to go after Romney another time. ** Defending the individual mandate as the only way to get insurance companies to cover people with pre-existing conditions, the president said: "This should not be controversial, but it has become controversial partly because of people's view that - well, let me just say this: You've got a governor who's running for president right now who instituted the exact same thing in Massachusetts - this used to be a Republican idea, by the way, this whole idea of the individual mandate, and suddenly some - it's like they got amnesia. (Laughter.) It's like, oh, this is terrible. This is going to take away freedom for Americans over the world, all over the country. So thats a little puzzling. Read full article: http://www.npr.org/blogs/itsallpoli...ng-obama-goes-after-gop-presidential-hopefuls As usual President Obama was right on the money on both instances as he cited the GOPs obvious anti-American agenda and their inconsistencies in following the party line and their actual history. There is no way that any of the GOP candidates can measure up to President Obama in his oratory skills and adult, politically savvy speaking abilities, plus his understated patience and willingness to hear anybody out before kicking them to the curb.
I thought the bus tour was about jobs...guess now it's about demonizing the opposition and getting reelected...Who would have guessed??? Color me shocked!!!!!
If the O.P. is correct, then why is he using tax payer dollars for this tour? It sounds completely campaign related. This is just shady. "Magical Misery Bus Tour" Romney tagged Barrack Obama well.
I thought this bus tour was to 'connect' with people in towns with low unemployment & economic stability? Not that they'd have to much to offer in the way of suggestions, but will certainly be more pro-Obama than say, folks in Detroit. And now a word from the Democrats on whose fault it is we're in a depression... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5n46fPcO2w&feature=player_embedded"]Obama speaks[/ame]
....... Don't you think President Obama should be 'allowed' to campaign, just as the republicans/T-baggers are doing daily? Do you thnk that it is only the republicans/T-baggrs that can demonize the oppostiion? Guess again.... Why would you have to guess or be shocked?....President Obama is coming out swinging, finally realizing that being patient, calm, and forgiving are not the weapons to use on a worn-out, tacky republican party, and a frothing at the mouth, gun-toting, white supremacist T-bagger cult.
What jobs? Unemployment is still 14.4% in the county I live in. Little wonder all he can talk about is his opponents in the upcoming election. Too bad all his opponents have to do is point out the failure of his policies to do anything but stimulated the National Debt. His failed stimulus idea cost more money in one year then the Bush tax cuts cost from when they started till they expire in 2012.
...... Really? I thought it was about Romey's job....or Paul's...or Bachmann's....or Perry's....or Guiliani's...or Palin's... If you could come up with even ONE candidate that has a chance of winning in 2012...let us all know, y'hear?
More leftist civility I guess. Boy, you people must really be on edge. I see this more and more everyday now. Guess we are doing something right.
When the sheeple tell us so. (or so they wish) [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mze5zi3GTvc&feature=player_embedded"]Obama's Magical Misery Bus Tour[/ame]
Good thing this isn't a campaign trip otherwise Obama would look like a thieving scumbag boosting the US treasury.
..... You have the effrontery to criticize President Obama on getting around visiting and talking with American citizens...when President GW Bush stole trillions of American taxpayers' dollars and emptying Social Security coffers paying graft to Afghan and Iraqi sheiks, tribal leaders, Halliburton, amid all the corruption spawned by the two (2) Bush Wars? The very fact that you actually would have the audacity to criticize ANY president after voting for GWBush is repugnant, disgusting, and deeply disturbing. If you are saying that our current president should not be 'allowed' to speak of anything political, or having taxpayers pay for his bus tours as other presidents have, then I would suspect you get your talking points straight from Fatty Limbaugh and the Fox News. Perhaps you think that the only Americans allowed to speak freely are the republicans/T-baggers? That no one else should be allowed to speak? ...especially the President of the United States? What could be "shady" about that? We are not living in Nazi Germany now, you DO understand that don't you?
He can speak all he wants, but why does he have to spend millions of tax-payer dollars doing it? You do know the elections are 15 months away, right? Hell, the man's done nothing BUT campaign for re-election since the day he was sworn in! Too bad he didn't spend more time actually leading. Mighta had a chance next Nov.
..... 1) Why did GW Bush have to bankrupt America on a wild and stupid Ponzi oil scheme? 2) Yes, I do know that...do the republicans/T-baggers know that toooo?Sounds very enterprising of Obama to me. First and foremost, Obama is a politician and elections are always at his frontal cranial region. 3) See you on November 5th, 2012...cannot wait it will be hilarious stomping down the few remaining clones left over from those comb-over republicans and the Tacky T-baggers.
..... Being of Irish heritage, I find that civility in the current rancid, toxic political scene is something that must be earned. With all the inane, stupid republican/T-bagger diatribe, civility is like throwing pearls to swine...the swine thrive on the civility of one side and invariably end up eating the pearls. We must face reality and realize just what level of devil we are dealing with here. While it does not, as yet, rise to the level of a holocaust, it certainly is reminiscent of the rise of the Reichstag.
The pretend as though they didn't take a history making defeat in 2010. 63 seats lost in the House and 6 in the Senate. Maybe if they ignore it happened it'll go away...eh?
Do you really believe that's going to happen with 9.1% unemployment, 16.2% underemployment people struggling to survive. 14+ million unemployed, gasoline hovering around $4 a gallon and food prices skyrocketing. I have gout, which is a form of arthritis where uric acid in the blood crystallizes in the joints causing pain, swelling and damage. I got an education on acid forming foods and alkalizing foods. I am very limited to what I can eat consequently my shopping list varies little from week to week. Last year at this time it cost me $40 to buy what it now costs $52 yesterday. If this doesn't change drastically by November 2012 the prospects mof your predicted "stomping" stand little to no chance of happening.
Yep, they also pretend unemp isn't at 9.2%, gasoline isn't $3.40 gallon and forget to mention there are more people on food stamps than ever before in the history of the US. Not much has improved since last November when the Dems got a shellacking. No doubt they're in for a repeat next year.
