A new report from U-Haul found that migration to southern states continued throughout the pandemic, with Texas being the top destination.

"Gone to Texas" was such a well-known phrase during early migrations to the state that people simply carved "GTT" on trees or fence posts when they headed west from the young United States. Now a highway version of "GTT" is underway, but it's headed from west to east: California and Illinois ranked as the states with the greatest one-way net loss of U-Haul trucks, and most of that traffic appears to have gone to Texas and Florida.

So many Californians are leaving the once Golden State that the moving giant says it ran out of wheels for them to rent….

his report is no surprise to a Californian such as myself. California cost of living is extreme in its highly populated coastal cities. It’s high tax rate and overwhelming regulation environment discourage the middle class. Immigration rules hurt the working class. An incredibly bad business climate and big city covid rules strangle entrepreneurs.

There are smaller cities and rural areas in the Central Valley and eastern mountain foothills in California that are still growing which magnifies even more the coastal urban areas losses

Of course they spread like cancer, or rats fleeing a dumpster fire or a sinking ship...

You know, a percent of them anyways...

However you spin it, I’m looking forward to Texas turning blue.

At least until the Republicans have some leadership with a spine, that’s fiscally conservative.

You will need to tell Bidet to keep the border open for new democrat voters to come across.

If you eventually get the one party rule that you seem to be craving I think you will regret it.

Anyhow if these liberal Utopias are such great centers of human advancement, then why the hell are the blue voters fleeing away from them?

Indeed. It will be nice to see progressives take the state over from the regressives who are trying to turn it into a reactionary shithole.

Probably all part of the democrat plot to turn Texas blue. The have an excess of votes in California so they are probably trying to spread it across America.

I know if I was happy living in the progressive Utopias of enlightenment.... the last thing I would want to do would be like you know what I'm going to move out of this house and go move in that other house where my landlord's an a****** and I hate my neighbors....

The largest net domestic migration gains were in Florida (220,890), Texas (170,307) and Arizona (93,026). All 50 states and the District of Columbia saw positive net international migration. Florida (38,590), Texas (27,185) and New York (18,307) had the largest population gains from net international migration.Dec 21, 2021
    https://www.census.gov/newsroom/pre...ration,gains from net international migration.

One would expect a place with too much population would be leaving to find another spot with a need for people. You are not interested in anything but the degradation of California which is stupid since California is part of the USA and has the highest GDP of any state.

    • Twenty-five
      • Twenty-five states experienced natural decrease in 2021, where there were more deaths than births. This was attributed to further decreases in fertility combined with increased mortality. Florida had the highest natural decrease at -45,248, followed by Pennsylvania (-30,878) and Ohio (-15,811).

The idea that it is a master plan may be a bit far fetched but the results are not. When tech companies are relocating to other states from California, the workers that go with them will not start voting republican. If they were progressive in California they will most like be progressive wherever they move. They will bring their ideas and lifestyles with then and influence those around them. This will probably apply to most people leaving the state. Those that are leaving are looking for lower cost of living they are not looking for a change in world views. They are going to move into areas and demand the similar sushi restaurants and coffee shops they are used too. The same types of grocery stores and entertainment. They will essentially make red states bluer.

They are fleeing the shithole they've created to the nearest conservative ran life boat.

If they wanted to live in progressive la la land...why move? The weather is nicer in Cali and there is beach front property.

They are not moving to change Texas, they are moving because they don't like the environment they've created. The only question now is, was a lesson here learned? Me thinks...no.

    If you polled those moving asking why it is they are moving? my guess is the top three answers would be;

    - homeless out of control
    - rampant crime and assaults not being properly dealt with
    - housing costs

it wouldn't be "we want to change Texas from red to blue!" but having said all that, i guarantee ya they will try.

    Why?

    You can't fix stupid.

Well first there is the cost of moving millons, second, one has to find all those movers jobs, and third, there are no guarantees how someone else is going to vote.

West tx is desert rural and mostly republican. Not too many high paying jobs out there if one is seriously considering flipping tx in that manner.

My initial thought based on personal experience were some people moved from California because their company did for tax purposes and they want to keep their jobs. Instead of just relying on my experience I thought I would google your question and this is what I found.

    https://www.ppic.org/blog/whos-leaving-california-and-whos-moving-in/

So your guess of the top 3 reasons for why people are leaving California does not seem to match the answers those leaving gave. (Except housing cost)

Here is an interesting fact from the article I never considered:

I think most professional that move out of California move into urban areas which are already blue. Like you said not too many high paying jobs in rural areas.

Then all that is going to happen is the blue areas are more blue, which only affects the Pres and Senate races marginally. It wouldn't be risk averse, too much money for too little in return.
