Serious question. Are young black school children taught about our founders, our Constitution and of our Civil War and slavery? To get a love of country shouldn't one first be versed in America's earliest history? What black child or black adult for that matter would want to love or honor a nation that was founded by 100% WHITE men? What black child or black adult would want to love and honor a nation that put its people in chains for decades upon decades? Would a black child or adult be more apt to glean a sense of historic national pride from reading textbooks about our early history that was dominated by WHITE men, or would they be more influenced by listening to the black liberal jessie jackson lead the chant of....Ho...Ho...Ho...Western Civilization has got to go?" What black person would be willing to overlook the fact that Thomas Jefferson and George Washington etc owned slaves in giving these men the credit and praise they deserve for being such great statesmen? Is it possible, or is it a given that blacks will always have this inner distaste for our historic figures because of their slave owning, and that they're destined to embrace a progressive/multicultural society based on the elinination of our history and of our traditions from their minds and from our textbooks?
The same people who fought for or supported civil rights, every nation has it's dark history for their time people like Thomas Jefferson were progressive in a lot of aspects but obviously had things wrong. The funny thing is most of the founders knew they wouldst have it all right that's why the constitution was ammendable and can be seen through a historic lens and should be treated as a living document this is also the view of most if not all the supreme court justices. People may look back at our time a hundred years from now and say that we were backward for criminilizing certain drugs and not allowing certain people to get married, it doesn't mean that we are some evil society it's just society hasn't progressed completely yet and may never fully to some peoples standards but if there is something I can say for sure it's that through the centuries we have progressed for the better and people (or in the case you bring up specifically black people ) realized this and want to continue this trend despite what people who have been dead for centuries did because the basic principles of what they envisioned was right but people still have to progress further. Actually for the sake of it I bet you are not a land owning person or that at least the majority of people on this forum aren't guess what according to the original constitution you are not allowed to vote, now if you aren't one do you hate America because of what people did in the past or do you look past these things and realize matters of the present are much more concerning than what people in the far past did.
People can put the past into perspective and decide to not let it run them. But that really depends on how the present is. Country still has a ways to go on the issue of discrimination and social justice. All you have to is read many of the threads here to know that.
Black men who served in the military must have loved their country even if they couldn't go in the front door of a restaurant when they returned home.
Or at least they loved what they thought the country could be. With all it's faults it was still their homeland. But many did say after WW2 that their was something wrong with that they had just been out fighting and dying against racist Nazi Germany to still find Jim Crow laws and sanctioned discrimination when they got back home.
My mixed race son (white father, black mother) served two tours in Iraq as an Army Ranger. Why don't you ask him if he loves America?
Do you remember what Muhammed Ali said about his refusal to go to Vietnam? That really hit a nerve with me..
Ali had little formal education.. but in no way was he a dumb guy. In 1964, Ali failed the U.S. Armed Forces qualifying test because his writing and spelling skills were sub-par. However, in early 1966, the tests were revised and Ali was reclassified as 1A. This classification meant he was now eligible for the draft and induction into the U.S. Army during a time when the United States was involved in the Vietnam War. When notified of this status, he declared that he would refuse to serve in the United States Army and publicly considered himself a conscientious objector.
Sure I remember it well. While white america hated him for it, it was true and yeah really hit a nerve in many of us. And for this thread listening to it would be very appropriate. Muhammad Ali on the Vietnam War-Draft http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeFMyrWlZ68 PS: You beat me to posting the youtube vid lol.
Your argument is extremely racist. If slavery is disgusting, why should only black people feel that way? As for "loving America", its not "America" (the geographical location? What is "America" here?) people love but the institutions and values that people believe make it great and/or can make it better - ideas of individualistic liberty, constitutional government etc etc which all worked, at least in theory, to eradicate things like slavery. The OP is ignorant and shallow to say the least.
I am also white America and a Southerner.. and I was no hippy.. I felt like I had been slapped awake. I was never "racist" .. I was just asleep..
The question 'Can a black man love America' is pretty straight forward. I don't see where my subjective or objective take on this question would make any difference as to whether a black person loves or hates America. Either they do or they don't. Pretty simple. So tell us if you as a black man loves America or not. Your answer can either be subjective or objective...take your pick.

What is so cruel about the question? I'm merely presenting the people with the facts and the history of the black man in America, and by doing so I would be curious as to how or what sense a black person would have to love the nation that kept their ancestors in chains for so long. You see, love and patriotism for America comes easy for me since two of my ancestors were presidents, i.e. John and Sam Adams.
Gee...I don't know, maybe they can love America when racist hate spewing people, like the ones found on this very forum, finally fade into the emptiness that encompasses them.....an example... and the best one yet.... so, by you asking the question you did....what have you done to help the black man love America...obviously here you haven't really done much to help....
Because its 2012, and what other country do black Americans have? If you're trying to say black people don't belong here I will report you.
I see that you and other libs and blacks here refuse to answer my OP question. Instead, you've all decided to make this about me by calling me a racist or other similar off subject side bar labels. Look, this isn't about me or of my feelings about blacks in general. Please make my day by having someone, anyone, perhaps a black man tell us just how and why they either love or hate America. Do you think this is too tough a request to ask a black man? I thought this forum had as a membership all adults, but I'm beginning to think that a few immature adolescents have slipped in here unnoticed by the moderator team.
