See, that just feels like history is linear. Just give it time and people will have more rights than ever before. But that's not how it works. Things go backwards, sideways, diverge in different directions. It's easy to look back at the past and see "of course it was always going to happen". I just don't want to get my hopes up when they're going to come crashing down.
It's not entirely linear. And there will always be those who want to revert to the so called good ole days. Because they still fear they lost some control. Woman's suffrage never was lost after it was gained, but it wasn't for a lack of trying. I suspect the same can be said of interracial marriage. Even slavery. ... Their efforts would ultimately fail with the ratification of the 19th Amendment in August 1920. But the anti-suffragist women would become a nationwide force that would influence later generations of conservative women. And today, a century after women gained the right to vote, echoes of their message remain. Granting women the right to vote, the anti-suffragists argued, would lead to a disruption of the family unit, of a woman’s role as a wife and mother, and of what they considered a privileged place in society — themes that would parallel those of Phyllis Schlafly, the conservative activist who would successfully campaign against the Equal Rights Amendment in the 1970s. https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/local/history/anti-suffrage-women-vote-19-amendment/ ... But if it's seen as a positive for the majority of society, such as a woman's right to choose or gays being able to marry, then it's hard to reverse. Even is the USSC lets states declare a war on women, there will be large backlashes in those states. IMO. They can't ban abortion, they can only make laws against it. Abortion will continue legally in other states or illegally in those backward states. As it did before.
I know. But it's more than that. Before Trump, it really looked like the LGBT community was making progress. Then Trump came along and all that hope and progress is lost. I don't have a good life. I'm poor, struggling to find a place to live, and my dream job is being a teacher in the US. I don't really want to get my hopes up that LGBT rights are here to stay when the Supreme Court will overturn Roe V Wade and then get rid of gay marriage as well.
Usually when the genie is out of the bottle, it's very difficult to put back in. Now that's not to say those who have little knowledge on a topic won't try, but the majority of the country is for rights of LGBT and woman's rights. And I don't see that majority flipping.
There is no way the government can put our LQBT friends back in the closet. They want to, but they will fail, epically.
I think I'll have more faith when most Americans know a trans person in their own lives. I hope you're right.
What kinds of delusional do you have to be to think the government wants to put "our LQBT friends back in the closet?"
Well, here in Florida, it may be illegal for a five year old to tell his classmates he has two dads. Does kid get called a liar, does kid get suspended? Unclear, as of now. Kid will absolutely be indoctrinating his fellow classmates, though, and Florida just made such conversations illegal.
It IS that simple. Conformity is a survival tactic. No higher social mammals will tolerate the self-indulgence you demand (while also demanding the protection of the 'pack'), because it puts the whole group at risk. Seems to me that the fear is all on the other side. Fear of the effort required to conform.
We are at an unprecedented time in human history, where naval gazing is not only an option, it’s almost a requirement. A 15th century man who feels like a woman, doesn’t have any history to pull from to put words with the feelings. Yet, we have, portraits that far back that, by all accounts, are accurate that a man spent his life pretending to be a woman. This isn’t a NEW thing. It’s just becoming more accepted that these people exist, and have always existed. They don’t care that you don’t understand, because if you wanted to, you’d at least try.
Wow, this is ridiculous. So I was right about the delusional part. Of course, I could always simply ask you to quote the portion of the law that would make the 5 year old in your example a lawbreaker, but we both know that's a useless exercise. All I can say that I'm sorry you've allowed yourself to become vulnerable to such fake news.
I think they can be but they shouldn't compete against born women in sports or share bathrooms or locker rooms with them, they should have their own.
You need to understand is that the reason this law came to be is precisely because teachers of our little ones are having diversity conversations. Here's the objectionable material: Teacher: Let's share about our families Kid 1: I have a mom, dad, two brothers and a dog Kid 2: I have a mom and a sister Kid 3: I have two dads and a parrot Kid 4: It's just me and my dad Kid 5: I have a mom, dad, four brothers and two sisters Kid 6: I have two moms and three cats. That, right there, is indoctrination into the "gay" lifestyle. Since these conversations won't be allowed, what's to be done when the children start talking without the teacher involvement?
So rather than quote the part of the law that you claimed would make 5 year old's lawbreakers, you made up a fake scenario that has nothing to do with anything. If you can't quote the law, just say so.
Male, female and transgender brains “The male and female brain have structural differences,” he says. Men and women tend to have different volumes in certain areas of the brain. “When we look at the transgender brain, we see that the brain resembles the gender that the person identifies as,” Dr. Altinay says. For example, a person who is born with a penis but ends up identifying as a female often actually has some of the structural characteristics of a “female” brain. https://health.clevelandclinic.org/research-on-the-transgender-brain-what-you-should-know/ ... How are Chemical Imbalances in the Brain Corrected? Antidepressant medications help millions of Americans fight depression by correcting the chemical imbalances in their brains to some degree. However, these medications don’t work for some people, and they don’t for many of our patients either. Sometimes the chemical imbalance might not be severe enough to necessitate prescription medication. https://southsidemedical.net/how-brain-chemistry-affects-mental-health/ ... Fear comes from those not knowing the topic or science.
I understand. DeSantis has you convinced that grammar school teachers are bringing in gay men to demonstrate anal sex, hence the reason for the law. You are being lied to. These things are not happening. Teachers are introducing *gasp* diversity via the way I’ve explained. This is the reason for the law.
Who here has claimed that it's new? Who here hasn't accepted that these types of behaviours always existed? Just like all deviations in the human condition, they're ever present to a small degree. Every society has a few 'misfits', that's the nature of the human condition.
