The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) say they will not send athletes to compete in Tokyo if the Games — set to begin July 24 — go ahead as scheduled.
Backed by the Athletes' Commissions, National Sport Organizations and the Government of Canada, the COC and CPC say they "made the difficult decision to not send Canadian teams to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the summer of 2020."

This is the first of many countries that are backing out.

It is only be matter of time before the Olympics are postponed until 2021.

    I favor the 1-Year postponement.

I think the Tokyo 2020 Committee should make the official decision soon.

    Thoughts?

Yep, shut it down for now. With the amount of travel involved to and from so many different locations around the world... for sure, shut it down.

Postponed? They should be canceled outright. Sorry Toyko, send the bill to China.

It's such a shame too, because we were about to celebrate the most peaceful sporting event in what is one of the most peaceful cities post-WW2. But yeah, the games should be canceled until we get the virus cleared, and to still hold it in Tokyo.

    They are thinking Summer 2021.

But, it sucks for the athletes.

They may be at a "peak" in 2020 and "Lose a Step" by 2021.

    Yeah, Tokyo 2021.

Anyway, Trump and His Supporters should be overjoyed.

There won't be any opportunity for Megan Rapinoe, Et.al. to stage an Anti-Trump Demonstration (on the Medal Podium) during an Election Year.

Your thread was going fine until you took the low road with the statement about Trump supporters. You just crapped on your own thread. Good work. Not surprising.

Yea, I didn't think about that. Sacrifices are being asked of a lot of us right now.

    "crapped" on my thread? :roflol:

    NO, I didn't. :bored:

I was just stating the obvious.

Everybody has KNOWN (for Ages) that people like Rapinoe (and other athletes opposed to Trump) were planning on Major Anti-Trump Demonstrations at the 2020 Olympics.

EVERYBODY Has KNOWN That For Ages.

Ever since Last Year's World Cup.

So, why not address the "Elephant in the Room"?

The IOC was so certain that it was coming that they even reiterated a Rule cracking down on podium demonstrations.

    https://www.si.com/olympics/2020/01...neeling-rules-international-olympic-committee

Anyway, you are certainly entitled to your opinion, but Trump (and his supporters) are breathing a sigh of relief that these demonstrations WON'T happen in an Election Year.

Btw--The Postponement is now a (virtual) CERTAINTY.

But, the Official Announcement from Tokyo 2020 will take awhile (as they figure out the logistics of rescheduling for next Summer).

    Carry on. :salute:

    I know.

I was reading an article about the Star Pitcher of the USA Softball Team.

Playing in 2021 (instead of 2020) could cost her a little speed on her fastball (maybe lose 2 mph of velocity)

That could be the difference between a Strikeout or a Home Run.

And every sport is like that.

Lose a step in Track, lose a second in Swimming, Etc.

Really sad for athletes that Timed their "Peak":.

    "Irreparable Harm" is being done.

A Gold Medal in 2020 could turn into a Silver Medal (or worse) in 2021.

Tragic situation (all the way around) especially if one understands the sort of training that it takes to get on the Podium in Summer (when 4 Times as many athletes compete).
