The normalization of hating white men is getting a bit crazy. White males allowed comic books to thrive. Marvel simply wouldn't exist without them. I find it amusing that the star of a movie can say blatantly racist and bigoted statements and not be smacked down by those pulling the strings.

“I don’t want to hear what a white man has to say about ‘A Wrinkle in Time.’ I want to hear what a woman of color or a biracial woman has to say about the film. I want to hear what teenagers think about the film.”

Take her quote and replace a few words and tell me its not hateful?

“I don’t want to hear what a woman has to say about ‘Taxi Driver’, I want to hear what white men have to say about the film...."

So if a male actor said that? And another...

“About a year ago, I started paying attention to what my press days looked like and the critics reviewing movies. I noticed it appeared to be overwhelmingly white male.”

“About a year ago, I started paying attention to what my parent teacher conferences looked like and the administration running schools. I noticed it appeared to be overwhelmingly women.”

Hmmm, wonder what the reaction would be if a guy said it=)

 

I try to seperate the art from the artists.... Love listening to U2... Their politics however...

Stated as if white men are a singular entity with no diverse thoughts, opinions, or experiences.

What would a progressive call this under different circumstances?

I know the likely progressive response is mockery. "Oh, poor white men", something along those lines. In doing that, they show their true nature.

 

As we plainly see from our pals in the Middle East and other Muslim countries, women only have as much freedom as their men allow them to have. The women who hate white men should be thanking us for being like we are rather than the Muslims they adore. Oh, and our border buddies down south are much better than our Muslim buddies.

 

Not a very effective boycott, it has made $78 Million in 2 days.

 

How convenient for white-male hating liberals to forget where every one of their modern conveniences came from, and from where democracy itself came from. Of course it is white supremacy to mention this.

 

Extremist rhetoric is not exclusive to conservatives or gender. You'd think an actress would choose better words to call for more diversity behind the camera, in the board room, etc.

The boycott is a joke. But there are certainly people who won’t go due to her mouth. I’ll have a tough time watching, because all I’ll hear is what she said, which ruins the movie. Probably end up waiting for Prime and see it for 1/2. Actors just need to shut up and act.

Actors, musicians, and athletes chiming in on political issues (often stupidly) is part of the reason we've become so polarized. To make it worse, much of it is mere virtue signaling, or intentional controversy for attention.

 

I'll hold my fire on that. Marvel has a pretty good track record of putting out genuinely entertaining products. I've no reason to think they didn't do the same here regardless of what reviewers say or how stupid an actress sounds. Actresses are supposed to be stupid after all.

 

This CCN organization is as far right as it can get. In their quest to denounce the movie and its lead actress it has given a great deal of money making publicity for its white male producers such as Disney studios.

 

They usually go "Oh, poor oppressed white men boohoohoo".

And then you reply that it's BS, only losers are oppressed, since you're winning you can't possibly be oppressed in the first place.

 

They're going to ruin their franchise trying to represent a crowd who isn't the core component of their fan base.

 

Next time we have a war, send just the women.

 

Strange how "poor white men" are being oppressed in this deal while Disney studios and all the white men who own it are counting their profits from the movie.

I'm a white guy. I think it's pathetic how much we whine. We're the biggest snowflakes on this Earth. We control all the levers of power in this country- governmental and in business- and we have the audacity to complain? It's just sad.

There's a great line in the film Lincoln (which I'm truncating).: "The inner compass that should direct the soul toward justice has ossified in white men and women."

Going to go see it on Sunday. Probably won't be in my top five for Marvel movies, but it does have the extra entertainment value of making Socially-Conservative Justice Warriors go crazy. It'll probably be worse than Winter Soldier, Homecoming, or Ragnarok and better than Iron Man 2 or Age of Ultron
