"Nearly 1 in 5 children in the U.S. suffers from a mental disorder, and this number has been rising for more than a decade.

According to a study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, up to 20 percent of American children are suffering from mental disorders such as attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety, depression and autism."

I think there are too many mentally deficient mental health care practitioners making up disorders in order to validate their (IMO) questionable profession.

    What BS!

ADHD is fake, anxiety is you expose children to the real world and proper support when doing so this includes accepting bullying as part of life one must suck up (if not physical) and if they had behavior issues that is what spanking is for I suggest a good belt. Children need to be trained like you would housebreak a puppy just with more talking and other options since they are children. That would handle behavior disorders and other issues. But a decent spanking is effective as part of the process.

Now autism is serious and some other issues but isn't that medical over a mental illness?

Good post. My take....Children need boundaries and, unfortunately, being your child's 'best friend' (like so many parents today) is just as detrimental to development as abuse....In fact it IS abuse to treat your child as a friend. Yes, they do have to be trained and it is not an easy task, it takes energy along with good sense and a lot of love. Parents today just don't have time which leaves kids to their own devices and too many choices which overloads their little heads full of mush.

Today TV and videos tend to substitute for parental supervision. In those kids shows, children are typically treated to large doses of kids programs most of which feature jumping, dancing running, hopping figures meant to stimulate physical development only.....If you don't get your child OUT of the living room and OUTSIDE to PLAY all that pent up energy has to go somewhere......Thus so called ADHD. This is particularly true of little boys who seem to have endless supplies of energy.
