Chicago businessman gives out $1.2 million in free gas This seems nice on the surface, but it's causing traffic jams and causing drama to the point that some gas station owners are opting out. Illinois businessman gives away $1 million worth of free gas to drivers People are sitting in their cars for hours to save a few bucks on one tank of gas. The issue of higher gas prices isn't really how much it costs to fill up your own tank; the issue is the incredible rise in transportation of goods around the world that then drives up prices for everything else. This one person's solution is actually just more headache for others. What's silly to me is that so many can't do the math to figure out if spending 2-3 hours in your car to save $50 is worth it. I know I value my personal time at more than that.
For many, a tank of gas takes a big chunk of their pay. I understand why people wait in line. Taco Bell is the only place to get gas for less than 2 bucks!
$1.2 million dollars. To put that in perspective it works out to about: 230,000 gallons worth of Brandon era gas. 563,380 gallons worth of Trump era gas.
Sure. While you have the luxury of viewing this issue from a position of convenience, others were already having trouble making ends meet before inflation bloomed. The rate of inflation we are being presented with does not include food or energy. When one has more month at the end of the money, waiting in line is an attractive option compared to feeding the kids ramen.
The standard right wing answer here is to ask why people are working shitty jobs that don't pay much? There is no shortage of jobs right now. Everyone is hiring. All over FB & ND, people are asking, "if you know anyone looking for work, we are in desperate need of help!" Millions upon millions of people are now working from home full time.
Not relevant. The rate of pay means nothing unless the cost of living is factored in. It is true that people are not looking for work.
He could have just offered $50 to anyone in a way that didn't cause overtime pay for local police departments.
