Criticize your president in China and you disappear.

Is this really who we want to be doing business with and depending on for everything from pharmaceuticals to phones?
Trumps policy of weening us from China exports looks smarter every day.

“An outspoken tycoon who blasted Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Communist Party for their abysmal handling of the coronavirus has gone missing, his friends say.”

“Ren Zhiqiang, a retired real estate executive, has never been shy about sharing his feelings toward people in power. In fact, last month he called Xi, one of China's most powerful leaders in modern history, a "clown" and slammed the government's efforts to contain COVID-19.”

That is the rule in China - one has many freedoms but, one freedom you don't have is to criticize the Party - never mind the leader of the Party.

Trumps policy is well intended but, too little too late

Rules of communism - never speak against the leadership, no matter how badly they suck.

That's not true, they can criticize the party and leaders so long as it doesn't leave the country. Doing so publicly or worse internationally is something else entirely. When I was there in 2002 there was plenty of criticism floating around. They aren't like the Soviets in that way...

Imagine if America was run like China.

The howling hysterical Trump haters might simply vanish.

Bash Trump and America all you want, but remember it is because you're lucky enough to live in America that you're allowed to do that.

Yup, it's a step up from the Soviet style where everyone was afraid of their neighbors. My understanding from the Chinese people I met was that democracy would be fine, but not at the cost of self-destruction that we saw in Russia. Baby steps and stability were more important. Again, that is the impression I got from those I knew, I am not attempting to speak for a billion people...
