Xmas is just a way to abreviate Christmas for advertisements. It's like calling a person Bob instead of Robert, or Bill instead of William.

I'm not an english speaker so I would say it sounds in my ears more the same as to call Robert X-bert in the sense of X-hole. X-mas is for sure not a noble expression. No one is degrading or reducing something what is really important. Whatever: Do you know what "Almalaguena" could be - except an honor for Malaga - and why it is important for the enemies of the christian religion to start their fight against Christmas this year in May - the month of mother Mary?

I'm not interested in a video where some soldiers and/or prisoners and/or slaves are speaking continously nonsense. Although lots of my ancestors are Ashkenazim (=german Jews) I don't have any idea what flamenco has to do with sephardim (=spanish Jews) and what this has to do with your personal nazilike enemyship against mother Mary and her son. If you are attacking Christians by celebrating something what you are calling "Almalaguena" then you should know what you like to celebrate today in May and what it has to do with Christmas in December.

People have been using X-mas for about 125 years. Busybodies always try to make it an issue every year.

And what exactly has Christmas to do with X-mas or X-mas with Christmas?

X is chi and has been used for a long time (centuries, iirc) to mean "Christ" since it's the first letter of the Greek word for Christ. It's like saying b-day instead of birthday.

¿Χριστ-mas? ... and "b-day" is birthday? ... strange ... Why two different words for the same thing? And why is X-mas = (Christmas + Χριστούγεννα) / 2 ? Whatever: until today I always thought X-mas is only an expression of atheists for Christmas.

But - I dont think whether you want to call it Xmas or Navidad - Noel - Natale - Kersfees - Gabonetako (basque) or Boże Narodzenie (Polish) - just look forward to having a fooking good time.
Its' got nothing to do with Jesus .

Interesting question Make. I use the word Xmas on cards and so forth because, as a writer, I'm lazy. But I celebrate the holiday as a Roman Catholic so anything church related I refer to the day as Christmas.

A Catholic is not lazy and to write "Merry Christmas" is for sure not a waste of time.

Lol, he wasn't born then either but that never seems to matter to Christians. I love the ridiculous conversations Christians have about Christmas and Easter. Historical revisionism at it's worse.

Yep ! that video you posts proves that you got education from Walt Disney . LOL

I hope the following wont overtax your mental capacity (wink)

How Did Christmas Come to Be Celebrated on December 25?

    A. Roman pagans first introduced the holiday of Saturnalia, a week long period of lawlessness celebrated between December 17-25. During this period, Roman courts were closed, and Roman law dictated that no one could be punished for damaging property or injuring people during the weeklong celebration. The festival began when Roman authorities chose “an enemy of the Roman people” to represent the “Lord of Misrule.” Each Roman community selected a victim whom they forced to indulge in food and other physical pleasures throughout the week. At the festival’s conclusion, December 25th, Roman authorities believed they were destroying the forces of darkness by brutally murdering this innocent man or woman.

    B. The ancient Greek writer poet and historian Lucian (in his dialogue entitled Saturnalia) describes the festival’s observance in his time. In addition to human sacrifice, he mentions these customs: widespread intoxication; going from house to house while singing naked; rape and other sexual license; and consuming human-shaped biscuits (still produced in some English and most German bakeries during the Christmas season).

    C. In the 4th century CE, Christianity imported the Saturnalia festival hoping to take the pagan masses in with it. Christian leaders succeeded in converting to Christianity large numbers of pagans by promising them that they could continue to celebrate the Saturnalia as Christians.[2]

    D. The problem was that there was nothing intrinsically Christian about Saturnalia. To remedy this, these Christian leaders named Saturnalia’s concluding day, December 25th, to be Jesus’ birthday.

    E. Christians had little success, however, refining the practices of Saturnalia. As Stephen Nissenbaum, professor history at the University of Massachussetts, Amherst, writes, “In return for ensuring massive observance of the anniversary of the Savior’s birth by assigning it to this resonant date, the Church for its part tacitly agreed to allow the holiday to be celebrated more or less the way it had always been.” The earliest Christmas holidays were celebrated by drinking, sexual indulgence, singing naked in the streets (a precursor of modern caroling), etc.

I start to celebrate Christmas 4 -5 weeks before the evening on December 24th and the Christmas tide ends traditionally here in our area on January 6th. But some Christians are celebrating Chrismas later - Armenians for example on 19th of January.

Well, this is exactly why I think the Xmas thing should stop -- the reason that most people do so is that they don't want the "reminder" of Jesus. Since most American kids are raised to associate Santa with Christmas moreso than Jesus, I think it's critically important to write out the whole name -- so as the real meaning of Christmas is not lost. Xmas, while the X might "symbolize" jesus, does not say Jesus. And that's why the PCers love it -- they can celebrate a Christian feast in a pagan way and change the name so as the people forget that CHRISTmas ever had anything to do with CHRIST. It's not idiotic to try to keep Jesus in his own birthday.

If a Christian has Respect to his believe he must to use Christmas, not the politically correct 'Xmas'.
It is difficult to believe that Muslims will accept Xran instead of Quran, or Liberals Xking instead of Martin Luther King.
