Clarence Thomas Slams Cancel Culture: We Must ‘Disagree without Being Disagreeable’

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas on Friday condemned cancel culture and expressed concern over its repercussions, saying in a Utah speech that university students aren’t learning how to disagree while being civil.

“If you can’t do it on a university campus, where do you learn civility? Where do you learn to disagree without being disagreeable?” Thomas asked. “I’m afraid that we have, particularly in this world of cancel culture and attack, I don’t know where you’re going to learn to engage as we did when I grew up.”

Justice Thomas is exactly right about this issue. Cancel culture and the broad culture war is destroying comity and civility in our country. That college is a place where tolerance for a diversity of thought and belief is most scarce is a bad sign for our future.

 

I hope people listen to this great Supreme Court Justice and learn to be more open minded and accepting that others can honestly come to different beliefs than ones own and that their beliefs and values are valid.
