Nick Clegg lashes out at PM and vows to rebuild ties with Europe By Allegra Stratton 'Bitterly disappointed' deputy prime minister joins Liberal Democrat chorus of outrage at EU veto. As some of you might remember, I was supporter of Clegg back in the day -- married to a Spanish woman, former MEP, spoke excellent Dutch and maybe even French, although I'm not sure about that. I'll hope he, and his party, get there act together and leave the coalition sooner better than later...
I totally support a Tobin tax. What I don't support is it's proceeds going to the rest of Europe. How about a tax on French farmers to go to the EU too?
I know a lot of Conservative supporters who hope Clegg and his party leave the coalition too. (They blame him for their beloved party's rather less than Conservative polices. Bless 'em.) Difficult for Clegg as he faces a dwindling number of supporters, so angry did he make them in putting the Conservatives in government rather than Labour. If he can't convince them to return, the Lib Dems face near oblivion. Clegg is also a former employee of the European Commission, and as such is on a very nice EU pension, provided of course he doesn't criticise the EU. He does also speak 5 languages - English, Dutch, French, German and Spanish. (I think his mother is Dutch.) Pity that doesn't make him think clearly.
