It's tragic that people don't feel safe just going to school. Is this worse than Yale. What's the easiest way to reduce tensions:

These land based colleges are becoming No Go Zones. They are going to have to go online or go out of business.

Time to stop paying through the nose for indoctrination and terrorist bullying.

I would say if Columbia wants to get control of it's school, it's going to have to have the protestors arrested and if they keep at it expel them from school. They are disrupting everyone.

Well, it's not as bad as Vietnam vets were treated on campuses near the end of war. Rethinking US policies towards Israel due to their disproportionate (and lack of) responses may help reduce tensions.

Maybe not but Vietnam vets weren't judged by the color of their skin.

Most Jewish students would be indistinguishable from other Columbia students.

Likely the "harassment and attacks" are between students who advertise their identities.

Columbia is willing embracing and promoting racist antisemitism. I can only imagine what the left's reaction would be if right wingers held protests about illegal aliens and child mutilation.

Columbia professors slammed over ‘grotesque’ rally that publicly backed Ivy League school’s anti-Israel protests

A group of Columbia University professors is being slammed for their “grotesque” decision to hold a rally Monday that publicly backed the antisemitic protests roiling the Manhattan Ivy League school’s campus.

Scores of professors and staff — including President Emeritus Lee Bollinger — appeared on the school’s steps to support the right of the “Gaza Solidarity Encampment” to take over campus space and denounce the administration’s decision to have protesters arrested.

“[It] will be remembered as a shameful day in Columbia’s history,” Asian Humanities professor David Lurie told the crowd, according to the Bwog campus blog.

The faculty members decision to back the protestors outraged Jewish groups, who said that “Encampment” is really a den of antisemities who have been abusing Jewish students.

“Professors are supposed to be teaching subjects – not misbehavior,” Rabbi Joseph Potasnik, executive vice president of the New York Board of Rabbis, told The Post.

Should Jewish students not "advertise their identities" then? They should hide who they are so they won't be attacked? This seems like victim blaming to me.

It's a practical matter, sort of like not putting political bumper stickers on your car to lessen the probability that the paint will get keyed or the tires slashed.

Are they actually antisemetic or just anti Israel? There’s a clear efffort to blur the line between the two.

That's not a bad question, and I think it's reasonable to ask that. Israel's government is not above criticism, and there is nothing wrong with fair criticism.

However since I've been on this forum, I've noticed that what starts as reasonable questions about Israeli policy on page 1 turn into rants against the Jews by page 3. So although I think it's theoretically possible to criticize Israeli policy without being anti-Semitic, in practice it just seems it's a gateway to anti-Semitism.

People wailing about Gaza deaths did no wailing about Israeli deaths on October 7th. That's something I noticed on this forum months ago. There may be exceptions, but mostly it's about hatred of Jews.

Probably equal parts of both. You probably don't watch Fox, but I sometimes do and they showed video of these protesters chanting "We Are Hamas." That tells me these protesters either don't know what Hamas is or what they did, or they just want to hate Jews and Israel.

It could be a lot about hatred of Jews because Jewish students are being intimidated and attacked and they have nothing to do with what's happening in Gaza.

It probably depends on the group or individual protester.

There are Jews protesting Israeli policies. I wouldn't consider them antisemetic, although some other Jewish groups consider anyone who doesn't unreservedly support Israel to be antisemetic.

There are probably Palestinian, Egyptian, and other Middle Eastern students who are antisemitc. I once had a colleague back in the late '80s who expressed pretty shockingly antisemetic views. These were not the irrational right wing antisemitism against banker cabals, Jewish Illuminati or Protocols of the Elders of Zion, etc. It was much more that as an Egyptian he had lost close family members in the recent wars with Israel and had the same attitude towards Jews as families who lost member in the Pacific had towards Japs. He didn't distinguish between Jews and Israelis because in his view Israel had been founded and supported quite universally by global Jewry.

Not downgrading the seriousness, but many Jewish students have actually been assaulted at Columbia? There obviously is antisemitism present, however some of this seems to be exaggerated by media coverage, especially those with a political agenda

Representatives from the New York Police Department said during a press conference Monday that there had been some incidents in which Israeli flags were snatched from students and unspecified hateful things said. But they said that there have not been any reports of Columbia students being physically harmed or any credible threats made against individuals or groups associated with the university community”

Yep, they changed the caption that was under one of his photos. Trust me, it was originally there.

    Oh, ok...
    Thx for clarification...
    "longtime State Department officer"
^Which would mean that she served in TRUMP'S State Dept from Jan.2017 to Jan.2021.
Most likely, that 4-year window was when her son became Pro-Hamas Radicalized...
    Thx alot, Trump! :smdh:
