Come on, Republicans. Our midterm losses are the final straw: Dump Trump now.

The American people rejected Trumpism and his MAGA movement in the midterm elections?!! Now is the time for the republicans to reclaim their party?!! The American people want democracy over autocracy?!!

The day after the midterm elections, on what should have been a day of reckoning for Democrats, Republicans are instead the ones who should be doing some serious soul-searching.

Polls had predicted for weeks that voters were motivated by concerns over 40-year-high inflation and the economy, in addition to a rise in illegal immigration and crime – and that they believed Republicans were best suited to address these problems. President Joe Biden’s approval ratings were also in the tank.

Voters' anxieties didn’t just disappear. So what in the world happened?

Blame Donald Trump's obsession with being a GOP kingmaker. His failures this week should serve as a warning to Republicans that if they don’t distance themselves immediately from the embattled former president – or, heaven forbid, if they back him to run in 2024 – then they are in store for a shellacking in subsequent elections.

Marc Thiessen, senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and former speechwriter for President George W. Bush, summed things up well on Fox News, calling the election results a “searing indictment” of the GOP.

Even though voters weren’t happy with the direction of the country or what was happening to their pocketbooks, in many cases they couldn’t bring themselves to vote for the Republican candidate.

"The Republican Party needs to do a really deep introspection, look in the mirror right now, because this is an absolute disaster,” Thiessen observed.

This seems to be the consensus among conservative pundits, as they try to make sense of the missed red wave – or as one of my colleagues put it, the "red ripple.”

As of this writing, control of Congress is still unknown. It shouldn't have been this close, given how midterms typically punish the party in power.

It turns out, voters – even those deeply worried about gas prices and grocery bills – couldn’t bring themselves to support candidates with flimsy qualifications or who bought into 2020 election lies.

Unfortunately, there were too many of those candidates – largely thanks to Trump’s interference in the primaries. Those candidates made it to the ballot in Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania and other states.

It wasn't all about Trump, aside from blaming him for the overy conservative SCOTUS, with six of them members of The Federalist Society (Google that, it's insidious).

Millions of women between the ages of 18 to 35 registered and voted for the first time, motivated by a single issue: whether or not they have autonomy over their own bodies, or if government is allowed to invade them, then hold them in slavery to the fetus inside their wombs.

This generated not only votes on various state measures around the country, but votes for the candidates who have expressed empathy with their plight. IOW, Democrats.

Also, there are the boomers who have been hearing men like Mike Lee and Ron DeSantis and several others, all Republicans, talk about cutting the Social Security and Medicare benefits that we paid into all of our lives, and often are the only resources we have. (Seriously, what the eff do they think we'll live on?)

Trumpism is only directly responsible for those who voted out of fear that he and/or his supporters and sycophants and kow-towers will take over all election tabulations, and democracy will become a failed experiment.

Yes, they did, but that isn't what they said would happen. How many times over the last few months have we heard Republicans and conservative pundits say that there would be a Giant Red Wave or a Big Red Tsunami? More like a pale orange ripple. See 2 above.

For the first time since 1982, the midterms did not result in huge losses for a first term president's party. The Dems probably lost the House, but retained the Senate. That wasn't supposed to happen. It wasn't supposed to be so close.

The final result is what matters in retrospect.
73% of Americans think the country is going in the wrong direction.
Joe Biden's approval ratings are lower today than they were yesterday.
The Republicans won the House, and as of today, Adam Laxalt is ahead in Nevada for the senate win.

    You were saying again?

It was not a Big Red Wave as promised. It was a failure as midterms usually go. Aside from 1982, every midterm has been a landslide for the opposing party. The pundits and GQP politicians have been hyping it until their heads start to spin. That was my only point. It was a fizzle compared to nearly all other midterm elections. If Republicans held, it was only by their fingernails.

You may not be a person who looks at history in order to get some idea of the direction of things to come. I am. I'll let you think that over, perhaps in the context of those issues I stated in post #2, if you bothered to read it.

"If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed.......and we will deserve it." -- Lindsey Graham (heh, even a broken clock is right twice a day.)

Oh, and BTW, the Republicans have not taken the Senate yet. As for the House, there are still 37 seats not yet determined, and the Dems have the lead in most of those races.

It isn't over yet, so perhaps you can hold off on gloating.

Trump is a drag on the 'Pub party for sure. Not wishing him any ill but if he wasn't able to compete in 2024 that would be just fine with me. Besides do we want a 79 year old Trump running against an eighty something year old Biden for chief executive of the country?

In a midterm where democratic votes always lag
    During a recession
    And massive inflation
With an extremely poor Democratic president.

This is the best the party in power has done in a generation.

    Please run trump in 2024
Continue screaming 13 year old rape victims should be forced to term but are too innocent to see a gay character
    Keep defending literal seditionists

    Go Republicans!

Which would give Republicans 50. However progs will simply not allow Masters (AZ) or Walker (GA) win, so that gives Democrats 50 + the VP.

You're misreading the increase in voters. The youth indoctrination that Marists have been cultivating for the last couple decades is paying off now that their first batch of progdrones is starting to displace our aging populations. Issues don't matter to these young radicals. Hell, they don't even fkin read anything longer than 250 characters. How could they be informed about any issue? They just vote D, literally doesn't matter who or why - and they freely admit this.

Yeh, it could be the Republican Party platform that is the issue — it’s either conspiracy, fraud, indoctrination, stupidity or some combination of the above.

    That makes perfect sense

Wish I could take you on a tour of the digital landscapes which these young people hang out. You would die of cringe. The root of their radicalism is absolutely indoctrination and stupidity.

    Huh?
    Masters NEVER had a Chance...
    Kelly was always a Lock...
And, in GA--If Walker loses the Runoff...
It WON'T be because of Big Bad "Progs"...
It will be because of Voters...

Liz Cheney calls election results ‘clear victory for team normal’ and rejection of Trump

    CNN —
Rep. Liz Cheney on Thursday said the results of this week’s midterm elections were “a clear victory for Team Normal,” and a “rejection of the toxicity” of former President Donald Trump.

“I think that it was a clear victory for Team Normal, and we have a huge amount of work to do,” said Cheney, speaking at the Anti-Defamation League’s Never Is Now Summit on Antisemitism and Hate.

“But I think that you saw in really important races around the country people coming together to say we believe in democracy,” the Wyoming Republican added. “We believe in standing up for the Constitution, and for the Republic. And a real rejection of the toxicity, and the hate, and vitriol, and of Donald Trump.”

Cheney, the vice chair of the House select committee investigating January 6, 2021, will be leaving office in fewer than two months, following a resounding defeat in her August primary to a Trump-backed challenger. Her continued criticism of Trump for his role in inciting the attack on the US Capitol was seen as a key factor in her defeat.

But Cheney made clear Thursday that she is intent on trying to shape the next session of Congress and stop – or limit – the scope of a potential Republican majority not committed to protecting democracy.

Races being a "lock" is just pollster and media jargon. The DNC and DOJ had extra lawyers in AZ, specifically in Maricopa. They knew work would need to be done.

As for Walker/Warnock. The De Kalb, Cobb, Fulton Gwinnett cluster (aka the giant ghetto of ATL) is more than capable of generating enough ballots to send Warnock ahead 3-4%.

There was no blue wave in 2018 and no red wave in 2022. None of this has anything to do with Trump. No one wins with a wave anymore, that’s just hype people say in order to motivate thier based.

Trump had nothing to do with the SCOTUS, that was the Republican Senate changing the rules to only 50 votes needed
