Here the US alone has spent trillions and we have devastated the world economy on trying to eradicate a bundle of a nucleic acids. Bin Ladin is dead but the virus is doing just fine thank you. No bang for the buck at all on this virus. Just economic hardship!

We can never know what would have happened if a different policy had been followed in the past. Nevertheless, I believe that if President Wilson's Fourteen Points had been adopted post war suffering in Germany would have been less, and the Germans would not have felt the resentment that turned many of them to the Nazis.

If the United States had joined the League of Nations the League would have been better able to oppose Japanese aggression in China and Italian aggression in Ethiopia. The Second World War would have been much less likely.

My bigger question is what possible interest did the US have in entering the First World War? The US had no reason to believe that they were in existential danger as they were in the second.

It may be we are in agreement here.

There was no compelling reason for us to enter WW1, and there were severely negative outcomes that came out of it.

I agree Wilson found himself with France and Great Britton who insisted on punitive treatment of Germany which as you indicate created many Nazis

More importantly, if the United States had not entered world war 1 (which served no interest of the United States) the combatants would have likely fought to a stalemate granting terms much more favorable to the Germans which would likely not have led to the severe privations almost essential to the rise of the Nazi party.
It also would have largely prevented the incredibly fast rise of the 1918 pandemic in Europe brought in by arriving US troops. US troop transport ships began to be called floating coffins.Wilson was aware of this and sent them in anyway.
