I'm having trouble at all the forums I have an acount at, including this one. When I try to 'quick reply' as soon as I start to type, it takes me to another page, and quotes the person who was last to respond. Everything I have written disappears.

It wasn't doing this last night - the 'quick reply' just isn't working at all. Any idea as to how I can fix it?

I hope that is not the case! My font is also playing up. It was normal size before, now it is so small I have to strain to see it. It did this the other day but correct itself, now I am having two different problems to contend with!

It's always guesswork to provide assistance from afar, but I'll give it a try. :)

After hitting quick reply, try to click into the text box where your new message is supposed to appear as you type. Maybe "write a text mode" isn't activated automatically for some reason and the keys you press are misinterpreted as shortcut commands for the browser.

Your second problem could be unintentional zooming. To address that, we need to know which browser you're using (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome are popular ones). For example, you can zoom in Firefox as described in the article below. Some methods in that article also work in other browsers too.

I am using IE. I don't know I am zooming but I can't zoom out. I had to restart the computer to fix it. I just clicked the mouse and it went crazy on me.

I have clicked into the text box to write the message but it immediately takes me to the other page with the quote in it. Makes it hard to respond to people!

Your crazy mouse could cause all sorts of problems. Are you using a notebook with a mouse plugged in? If so, try to unplug the mouse and use the touchpad (or other built-in mouse) of the notebook instead. If no weird things happen anymore, your external mouse could be damaged.

You can also download malwarebytes and superantispyware, both are free programs and run them one at a time. Hopefully you can download them. Sometimes when you have a virus they won't let you download. Did you run your anti-virus program?

    Mak, just to eliminate your browser as a source of the problem ( IE has always been flakey , imo ) , download and install another one to cross-check. I've been using Opera for 12 years without a glitch;

    http://www.opera.com/download/

You can always keep two, or more , browsers installed without any conflicts and switch between them to suit. You can also uninstall or ignore any which you don't care for.

If it turns out that it is IE playing up you can always repair it or reinstall it if you want to keep using it. It is, however, and always has been, a virus and hacker magnet.

Sorry, Mak. Your quick reply feature is not compatible with the upgrade and we had to take it away. We've been assured they're working on it and hopefully you won't have to wait more than a few months to get back to normal. :lonely:

that happened here thought it was a hacker who did not like my posts but it was a virus so a virus scan must be imminent or the computer will not respond any longer as in my case

Oh! I didn't know that! I just tried it and it worked just like that!

So that is sorted, I still have trouble with the 'quick reply' feature, though. And the weird thing is, my touchpad hasn't worked in over a month, and now it is! I have no idea what I did to make it work again!

Aha, I got it! Its a problem with IE. I just opened up Firefox, typed in the quick reply box and had no problems. Looks like I will have to change browsers again!

    Thanks everyone! :)

They way it plays up, I almost think it was second hand. I much prefer my desktop, for sure. I've had too many problems with the laptop!

That's a pretty good brand. For a while our IT department was buying Toshiba laptops but now they've switched to HP.

I don't like mine. I don't have wireless internet so I have all these cords plugged into it, dragging the floor. I always end up tripping over the bloody things!

Okay, another problem I hope someone can help me with.

I switched back to Firefox and its working great. Problem is, I can't see YouTube videos posted on this forum. I need a 'plug in' and that is Abode Flash Player, and when I go to install it, it says 'page not found'. I can see videos using IE, though, and don't require a plug in for it.

    Any ideas?

    1) In IE, clear your cache. That will probably take care of the problem there.
Cog in upper right hand side, Internet options (near bottom), make sure you're on the General tab, click delete under browsing history, check "Preserve favorites website data", "Temporary Internet Files", "Cookies", "History". You can check whatever you want, but if you delete your passwords, you'll have to reenter them for every site. Click delete. It could take a few seconds to a few minutes so be patient if you see the "working" mouse pointer for a little while.

    2) For the Firefox issue: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Download and install (uncheck the McCaffee Security Scan Plus, it's kind of cheesy for Adobe to have that checked by default).

If that doesn't take care of the issue, make sure that you don't have a Firefox addon that is blocking flash.
