COP17 (Conference of Parties 17) the UN's international conference on climate change, starts in my city of Durban today. As we are very close to the end of the Kyoto agreement, this conference is supposed to come to a new agreement to replace Kyoto, but it seems the only thing everyone agrees on is that this will not happen.

Apart for the nuisance that 20 000 extra people, from heads of state to Angilina Jolie causes, especially with traffic, and having our city centre cordoned off, I am quite interested to follow proceedings to see what if anything will be reached by this conference.

I will give updates here regularly, not so much on the conference, but more on what is happening in the sidelines.

You can count the United States out of the cockamamie wealth redistribution scheme.

Wonder what will be the next moonbat scheme that the liberal puppetmasters think up for their lemmings worldwide to embrace ? I suppose more class warfare.

Good luck to the local merchants. I hope the conference brings a good economic boost.

If I were a merchant, I'd have rush to have to printed: "made with 100% recycled materials" on everyhting from toilet paper to coffee cups and double the prices.

if the nutjobs believe in the Gore science then they'd be gullible enough to believe me and pay more.

If you lived through the storm we had last night, of a type unknown in this area untill a few years ago, you might think differently. There is no doubt, looking at how our climate has changed in SA, that something is happening.

But hey, protect your materialistic sad existences, let others worry about the bigger picture.

I don't think anyone doubts that climates change. Heck, millions of years ago I'd be typing this on ice.

So, good luck to your belief in Gore science that man causes it. If it is in fact true, then I guess we eradicate man.

    It's called life.

1200 miles from the North Pole and there was vegetation lush enough for herbivore dinosaurs. Please explain how that happened without burning fossil fuels? Can you or not?

If you can't then the whole man made premise doesn't hold water till you can. There is proof that the climate warmed that drastically in the past WITHOUT man's intervention. Why shouldn't we believe it's simply happening again, with or without man unless you can offer positive proof not anecdotal proof.

    http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/arcticdino/about.html

There were Herbivore Dinosaurs and the vegetation to support them between 400 to 1200 miles from the North Pole. The fossilized remains of both don't lie. Something cause the Earth to warm to that extent, man didn't exist and the fossils for oil were still walking around. So what caused the Earth to warm that much? If you don't know, then you can't be sure that the same process isn't happening again.

Here's a theory for you: The Herbivore Dinosaurs multiplied in such great numbers, they ate all the carbon sinks (trees and foliage) and the Earth warmed to that point. Now fast forward to now, deforestation is destroying the carbon sinks (trees) far faster than any carbon emissions reduction plan could ever cope with. What going to happen? What needs to be done?

The arrogance that man has caused or can change the weather is beyond stupid and thats why all of your changes will do nothing but rack up costs.

that has absolutely nothing to do with the wealth being created preying upon those who think man is the cause.

Who cares if dinos roamed what is now solid ice. Gore said man is to blame so it must be so

The climate changed, therefore something is happening.

    Quite the astute observation.

I read some of the same "scientists" are now board with on global warming. it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out they are just trying to keep their research jobs alive.
