There's been times where I've ordered a coffee I didn't really want because I sensed it was inappropriate to wait inside that particular restaurant without ordering something. A place like McDonalds doesn't care at all, but in some restaurants you do feel the eyes of the employees silently judging you. The article says the men were told several times by the employees that the restaurant was for paying customers and they stubbornly refused to order something. The story would have ended here for 99% of people, who would have ordered a coffee and that would have been the end of it. But some people seem to feel the pathological need to always challenge authority. The article says the cops then arrived and politely asked them to leave several times, they refused again, so they were cuffed and walked out. I don't think they should be rewarded and championed as victims for acting petulant.

yep, I think the story was pretty strait forward, the guys refused to leave or buy something, cops called, they refused to leave, cops arrested them, da decided not to press charges

I disagree, the manager followed store policy. Starbucks publicly apologizes, the store policy remains in effect tomorrow.

The men were wrong in every sense. The video I saw was 8 minutes long and only appears to start well after the police are involved. This means the event started 20 or 30 minutes prior, then the call to 911, then 10 minutes for the bicycle cops to arrive. That's 48 minutes of business disruption.

I'm telling you I've seen this many times in downtown fast food type venues. This started with restroom use then table use. A business budgets for its customers and the daily number expected. If every soul trotting down main street were allowed to utilize the restrooms it would require a full time restroom attendant!

Well, the lawsuits haven't been filed yet. You can bet that both Starbucks and the City will be paying out big bucks to settle those.

 

I hope not, guess depends on the jury though, you know it they would of been white there would be no money awarded, so I would hope the same applies regardless of race

Backing a candidate for DA in an election and "picking" a DA are two different things. For example, Donald Trump backed the child molester Judge Roy Moore for a senate seat, but he didn't pick him. In fact, if I recall correctly, Judge Moron lost.

Both Republicans and Democrats, both judges and politicians, across the country have become convinced that the United States puts far too many people in jail, so the fact that a DA believes what most other informed people believe is quite normal.

 

Its called "buying an election."

Now, black people can hang out in Starbucks without buying anything with impunity. They know the DA won't prosecute, so the cops won't arrest and the managers won't bother to call.
