Could the DNC swap Harris for Newsom, the have Biden resign?

This idea of gaming the presidency popped into some heads in my circle.
The DNC dumps VP Harris, then puts in Gavin Newsom. Then the media handles Biden's basement campaign keeping him out of sight. Assuming Biden wins, he waits for six months or so and resigns, making Newsom president.
Is this legally possible?

Is it legal? Sure it is. Biden has plenty of excuses to resign. He’s mentally unfit to be president.

Will the Democrat Party buy it? That’s the tough one because with identity politics playing such a huge roll in the party’s makeup, will the convention delegates accept dumping the Black female vice president for a middle caged White guy? Will the campaign worker bees be happy with that? Will the woke Democrat voters have the required enthusiasm?

There have been many comments on how the Democrats could pick Newsom over Harris for the presidential nomination. Dumping her from the second spot will be a bitter pill for some Democrats.

 

I doubt Newsom can win nationally.
There is just too many hours of video of homelessness, stores being looted, brick and mortar stores closing due to looting, crime against lol's and women, freight trains looted, and now buddy buddy with Xi Jinping on killing our fossil fuel industry while Newsom pimps electric cars, and calls cleaning up the streets for a Chinese dictator like "cleaning up your room and putting dirty socks in the hamper". California chose to give money to every NGO and poverty pimp with a liberal cause rather than build infrastructure. Even prisoners with phony names like Lassie and Rover were getting covid money. California along threw billions of dollars away like confetti.

 

Yes, but Newsom is so gorgeous! He has great hair! He can speak in complete sentences, unlike Biden. And, he doesn't get lost on stage wandering around like a lost soul, shaking hands with the air after a speach.

You have to remember that most voters know nothing about Newsom's failures in California. Their introduction to him will be when he gets the nomination for a national office. And, after all, if he's the Governor of a big state, like California, he must be good.

Newsom's big problem will be replacing a Black woman. That's hard to overcome in the Democrat Party. Remember the ability to do the job is third or fourth on the list for Democrats. What's more important is race, gender and now sexual orientation. Maybe Newsom can become gay.

 

I have to agree with you here. Newsom has nothing solid to run on and let’s not forget his dinner with lobbyist buddy Jason Kinney while everyone else had to cancel celebrations. Newsom is nothing more than eye candy, but I can see some women swooning and casting their vote for the cute guy.

 

But don't forget... Biden's computer guys told him that they had the 2020 election under control... and that Biden could campaign from his basement..... for all of his many, many, many, many, many flaws.... at least Newsom can speak in a coherent manner.................... and probably could attract a fair sized audience to a rally.............. unlike Biden who did everybody a favour by campaigning from his basement.....

I think you and I hang out in the same circle. Because the same guys started talking about, resurrecting JFK to combat RFK and ask Regan to flirt with Rosalynn Carter. They also said H Bush is standing by if he needs to come back to combat all the gay loving liberals. Biden is talking to dead people and bringing them back during campaign season.

If you ask me , is this possible? I say . if I drink enough cheap Bud Light Beer anything is possible. Most people don’t admit those but I on the other hand , drinks lot a cheap Bud Light and then come online and start asking others “is it possible” . hell it is possible as long as I have enough Bud Light in my blood.

 

Trump has the same problem – Trump can’t speak in complete sentence, trump can’t remember the state he is visting.

Yet , You will vote for trump in NOV 2024. So why would anything pay attention to what you are saying?

 

You will be voting for Biden who has no idea where to go after he’s given a speech that was written for him.

 

It’s legal. But will never happen. Biden has already said Harris is his VP.

Which leads me to believe both major parties are total ignorant of the wants and wishes of most Americans. Both major parties with these two as their nominees are telling most Americans to stick it where the sun don’t shine.

 

The sad part is the Democrats are more guilty for forcing Biden on us than the Republicans forcing Trump on us. Over 50% of the primary voters want Trump according to the polls. Democrats seem to be more uncomfortable with Biden, but the alternatives do not include a major opponent who is politically viable.

The primary system was supposed to make choosing a president better, but it hasn’t.

 

At least Joe Biden doesn’t try to overthrow US Democracy.

Trump on the other hand tried to force his VP ( not my word, Pence own testimony and speech) to overturn election result to keep Trump in WH.

So if the choice is Biden , who sometimes forget where he is vs a guy who wants to overturn US democracy, it’s not hard to chose who to vote.

Unfortunately for you, partisanship is so strong , you would rather vote for a guy who may end US democracy.

Newsom is already running if you hadn't noticed. He even got Xi to meet with him in China to show off his international relations skills. The DNC won't allow Biden on the ballot whether he resigns or not.

Newsom gamed the state senatorial replacement system to appoint an out of state resident to "represent" California to replace Feinstein.
She is a top bundler and money harvester for the democrats. Newsom didn't ignore precedent, custom, and possibly the law send her into the belly of the money beast because of a fantasy. She is raising money and his profile for him.
Democrats play for keeps and they don't let rules get in the way.

 

I agree. Our modern primary system began in 1976. I go along with you in thinking the pre-primary way of choosing candidates was much better. More Americans saw both major party candidate much more favorable back then along with viewing their choices in a much better light, viewing them more competent etc.

I think either Biden or Harris would have to agree to it.

Which might not be as difficult as you think, since the Party would offer some sort of reward, like another political position, or some lucrative consulting position paid by some private organization. (A Party can also threaten to end your political career by refusing to endorse you ever again, if you don't do as you are ordered)

If they still held out and said no, then it would be too embarrassing to resort to impeachment.
