Omicron BA.2 sub-variant now nearly a quarter of new COVID cases in U.S., CDC estimates

Since January, Omicron has made up virtually all new infections in the U.S. Like in many countries abroad, most cases in the U.S. had been caused by a sub-lineage of Omicron known as BA.1. But while both BA.1 and BA.2 can be traced back to some of the earliest samples gathered of Omicron, BA.2 has only recently begun to climb in prevalence.

BA.2's prevalence is the highest in the Northeast, according to the CDC's "Nowcast" estimates published Tuesday. In the region spanning New York and New Jersey, the agency estimates 39.0% of circulating viruses are BA.2. In New England, prevalence of BA.2 is at 38.6%.

Oh stop panicking. Omicron is what is sweeping China and the new variant doesn't appear to be as dangerous as even Omicron.

We knew long ago that pretty much everyone will get Omicron. But the the death rate was only about 0.3% of known infections. In the beginning we saw a lethality rate of about 2% of known infections.

 

I'm done with the covid already. Science says the best protection is to get it, develop natural antibodies, and get it over it. I'm leaning heavily that way myself.

I didnt bother to get the vax, my physician had to and he was sick as a dog and down for more than 2 weeks, I was down for only 3 days and I am much older than he is

 

It doesn’t matter any more. You get get your immunity from a shot, or you can catch it. It depends on your own freedom to evaluate your own morbidity, vs the dangerousness of this variant.
