    It has officially ended:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/post/its-official-dont-ask-dont-tell-is-history/2011/03/03/gIQAq93yfK_blog.html

Now hopefully people in the military will come to realise what a horrible thing it was and learn to accept their gay comrades. If our military can serve with their openly gay mates, then why can't Americans?

What most people don’t realize is that Gays can still be giving the boot for being Gay. The military isn’t like a business, they don’t have civilian rules; you don’t show up for work, you’re AWOL. The reason that they have these special rules is because of what they are tasked with; National Defense. So when you start having Gays affect the readiness of a combat unit that in turn affects National Defense. During the Vietnam era they called it a “good of the service discharge”. Today they call probably call it other then honorable discharge. Or more likely just give them a honorable.

So everyone who is parsing this, well it isn’t quite over yet. And you simply can’t reassign someone because any soldier can end up combat. Look at Iraq, there have been cooks who have had to get a rifles and dig in

Hooray. Now we just need to integrate transsexuals and cross-dressers into the armed forces. That way everyone can feel all warm and fuzzy about equality and progress and stuff...

It's amusing how frightened right wingers are of anyone who isn't exactly the same as they are.

It's amusing how ignorant leftists are of unit cohesion and its importance in combat.

And 70 years ago you would have been arguing against blacks being allowed to serve in white units.

What's good for gays is bad for the military - and America.

IMO they should have the trannys in the CIA, so they can be double agents who spy on both sides of the fence.. LOL.

Clint is correct. The general discharge gets them out for pretty much any reason. These queers are still one and done the moment that they do something that their superior officers do not like. The repeal of DADT doesn't mean jack. :fart:

    Homosexuals are creepy.

And particularly so to the manly, patriotic sort of people who are drawn to military service.

If that fits your definition of homophobic then too bad.

There were gays in the military before, now they can wear skirts. Thats the only difference.

Now you have no excuse not to pick up a rifle and serve your country.

    Weird...

I got up this morning, and, *gasp* the base hadn't imploded on itself...

Do any of you realize that the repeal of DADT will not affect the way the military is run, at all?

The same policies governing behavior by service members are still in place...

Just because someone decides to openly admit that they are gay (which I'm sure a lot still won'nt do), does not mean that they can disregard policy and start grabbing dicks, wearing skirts, switching up & down the halls at work, or any other nonsense that you doomsayers have conjured up in your heads...

    Nothing is really changing...

It doesn't mean that they won't either.

Think of Gay and Lesbian night at the EM Club and endless complaints to the EO advisor about harassment.

Now the homosexual lobby will be coming on post to make sure the military is sensitive to gay concerns.

No, the fun is just beginning for the 1% of gay weirdo's in our society who are just spoiling for a fight.

I would not expect a lib from Canada to understand the men who volunteer to serve their country in uniform.

This is a stupid ass argument...

"Oh no, they might touch me!!!"

Have you ever been groped by a gay person?

I haven't, so, I have no reason to think that it's gonna happen now...

    You guys are ridiculous...

    I have never been groped.

But I avoid places where homosexuals tend to gather.

This just a new headache and a distraction for the military to deal with that will compromise combat readiness to some extent.
