There is no point complaining to the mods, and I think I know why. We all know the state is working hard to be able to regulate speech on the internet. I have seen the mods say they know for a fact it isn't a problem with the server. People now donate money. Has anyone else thought that it might be government bugs screwing with PF? I don't go to any other political forums, so I don't know if the problem exists on them as well. I do serf the web a lot, and have not seen anything, anywhere, even remotely close to the problems of this site. It just seems odd to me. Has anyone else thought this? Shills are getting more worthless by the day, as their tactics make themselves look like trolls. Is this the state's last ditch tactic to try and subvert independent thought? Please discuss.
I have never seen any mods say it is not the server. The last time it ground to a halt, they contacted the owner, and within an hour it was better than it had been in months. I can't give you an exact answer as to what is wrong without access. My guess it is a combination of the server running several other sites (I don't remember how many, but several are assigned to that server), and a database with a problem. Either the architecture was poorly setup, or there is some kind of corruption. As it sprawls and traffic spikes it fails to resolve. I doubt it is a disgruntled user flooding the db with requests or anything, though it is possible. It is not the provider... I can tell you that. It is not the pipe. Oh... and it is not the gubbament... however the server is in Langly. Go tin foil on that.
It's not a far-fetched thought. We all know if they COULD shut us up, they WOULD shut us up. Obama's new 'report your neighbor' site is proof of that. Rather than being 'state' interference, I've often wondered if it isn't one of Obama's cyber zombies, assigned to forum warfare. Face it, most libs aren't smart enough to 'infiltrate' anything. It's more likely they'd hide in the dark and hire a geek to hack the site. I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that's what's going on here... and made possible by insufficient firewalls. Happened to another site I visit sometimes... Granny Jan. She makes funny videos of Barack. Her site went down for awhile, lost all the archives, but she came back... more determined than ever. They can try... but they can't succeed.
Almost every awesome hacker I know, with notable exceptions, is a liberal. They are typically pretty anti-establishment though. If it was government it would not simply be a nuisance.
We don't know what the problem is. Believe me, the Mods are just as frustrated as you guys are! We hate it when the site runs slow. We want it fixed just as badly as you do, but these things take time. We are working on it, you've just gotta grin and bear it for now, and hopefully, we'll work out the problem and fix it.
Rubbish! None of us are anything like as significant as you imagine us to be. This board is a flea on the back of the elephant (or donkey) that is the US government.
Not so. It's one of the most active political forums around (not owned by a specific publication, that is). Not saying politicians follow us... but they'd be foolish not to have SOMEBODY following us. Voice of the people, ya know? Besides, it only takes ONE psycho to hack a site and I've seen at least 10 come and go since I've been here. Wouldn't be all that surprising to find out one banned hacker nerd is messing with the site.
Google is a bought and pay for shill of this White House. They got all kinda tax breaks and exemptions. In order to effectively have a Politburo someone like Google has to be on board.Plus a guy like Cass Sunstein. Yes this WH has a Big Brother. And Google is front and center. In fact YouTube is a vehicle manipulated by Google.
It has gotten better, subby! Except this morning when it took 15 min to get in... and there've been 3 DB errors already. Short ones, though. So yeah, it's getting better!
Until something BiG happens and people want to voice their opinions over the Internet. If it's BiG and Political and negatively impacts Obama, they can pull the Internet plug. They being this WH via Google et.al.
Only an idiot would take the extremists rants spouted by a few of dozen people here as any kind of indication of the opinions of the wider population of normal people (no that there aren't idiots in politics of course). There are much better managed ways of establishing what the general public thinks. Anyway, the conspiracy theory wasn't just that this site could be casually monitored for socio-political information but that the "Database Error" messages are caused by someone actively trying to prevent people posting here. It's that which requires, among other things, a hugely egotistical exaggeration of our importance.
There are shills here. The simple fact there are shills here chops what you are saying to pieces. People in business have known for a long time word-of-mouth is what makes or brakes your business. I won't talk about the conspiracy section and the shills there. Let's pretend there are people who actually find it amusing to dismiss people they find nuts. Absurd, but for the sake of argument, we'll pretend there is such a demographic. Have you ever tried to argue the legitimacy of the FED? There is one extremely obvious shill who will pop out of the woodwork to defend the FED. I only know 2 kinds of people in real life concerning the FED. Those who have know idea what you are talking about, and those who do and know the FED is a fraud. I have never in my life met someone who defends the FED. If there are shills here, the premise of my question has merit. For the 1st time ever, PF now has more people who think both parties are the same than the die hard right and left combined posting. The shills don't work anymore, the legislation hasn't passed to regulate information on the web, screwing with the site just enough to bug people and have them move on seems perfectly plausible. I have literally not known ANY other site to have as many problems for such an extended period of time. You know they are working their butts off to fix it. How can such an easy, simple, internet format be so challenging to get to run right? If all other forums run perfectly, than obviously it isn't some bug. I just really wanted to know if any people on PF go to different forums and do they always run smooth? It seems like the way this forum is designed is the basic format that all forums use, from the few I have seen through links. If this one has so many problems they probably all should.
Must be comforting to think so highly of your fellow man. Unfortunately, most of us know it only takes ONE off-kelter individual to wreak havoc. Nobody's saying it's a fact... only that it's possible. Since there's no proof either way, arguing about it is a moot point.
Not to mention one big whine-bag. It's no wonder nobody in his administration has enough balls to stand up to him... probably hate to see him cry.
I don't see that as any kind of confirmed fact. I don't see why it would be worth anybodies money to actually pay people to take a particular position on a political message board (and certainly not to do it as badly and many of those accused of being shills do). Are the people posting against the FED also shills or does that only apply to positions you personally disagree with? Most of the debates we have here are fairly irrational from either side - it rarely achieves anything positive. Sometimes you get a half-decent debate which is interesting if you're of that mind. I've always works on the basis that most people posting here are (like me) of that mind. How many sites do you know in enough detail to be aware of such a problem (especially considering similar problems might not present front-end error messages). I've known lots of computer systems at all sorts of scales and I've yet to encounter a single one that didn't have some kind of bugs, flaws or imperfections. It seems perfectly rational to me that, possibly under the pressure of the volume of data, they're encountering such a bug on this boards system. I certainly see absolutely no reason to suspect anything more dramatic. I realise that this post probably labels me as a "shill" in some people's eyes.
In the grand scheme of things this site is really insignificant. We are not affected policy here. At all. I doubt anyone has come here and had their opinions changed. The government would gain exactly nothing by "shutting us up". No one cares.
I would bet a lot of money that Obama has never visited this site and probably doesn't know it exists.
It's really not necessary that Barack Obama (or anybody on his team) know about this site for us to be hacked. All it takes is one frustrated Obama supporter who got banned. How many have we had in the last year, 50?
Wulfgang comes to mind. He keeps showing up at my place insulting people and getting himself in trouble. Don't know what's wrong with him. I figure he's mentally ill.
I learned well back when I was a manager at a McDonald's that 1 disgruntled customer ends up affecting 10 other customers. One ticked off McDonalds customer could make for 10 ticked-off customers. Politics is the same way.If not why do Democrats actually spent more time smearing Republicans than doing their job.Nancy Pelosi dint make Speaker because she kept her mouth shut about Republicans. She demonized Bush and his Republicans almost non-stop daily.A voice is a voice. An voice is a vote.Enough voices and votes and Voila. Get where I'm goin here. Of course Democrats are interested in infiltrating and knocking out the competition. What do you think Dan Rather did with Bush and that Bogus AWOL report.Obama wasn't a Community Organizer in order to start Boy Scout clubs.
