Why should American's pay to protect someone locked up in a perfectly safe jail?

 

Fortunately, that's not how it works. All Presidents, both current and former, receive secret service protection, even if they are in prison. The only way that a former President would not have a secret service detail is if he refused and declined the service, which only one former President ever has.

 

That's not how it works NOW. If Congress passes a law that denies SS Protection to ex Presidents convicted of a crime and Trump gets convicted, bye bye SS protection.

 

Even if that were somehow to happen, which it won't, Trump would be placed in a secure facility away from everyone else.

 

It's not like we have a lot of previous experience is it.

Or congress passed a law saying they don't ... IF ... they commit a felony and get sent to jail.

Honestly, if Trump gets sentenced to jail, the best way to do it would be to either take an existing prison and clear out an entire cell block for him and staff it with Secret Service instead of regular guards or find a facility that would be big enough to house him by himself and turn it into a prison.

The DNC did not bring charges, did not investigate Trump on this or any of his other indictments, did not in any way direct the DOJ on who/what/when to investigate, did not pick a grand jury, did not assign a prosecutor, did not assign a judge, and did not choose the jury.

I don't know about that. I smoke unfiltered cigarettes to the tune of a pack a day and if I try to take a hit off of one of those vape cartridges it makes me cough like hell.

You're probably right. I'm glad that I managed to quit tobacco years ago. Feels so much better. Plus, cautionary tale, my brother died from small cell lung cancer, the aggressive sort that's been directly linked to smoking. I wasn't going to take chances with the thing that killed my closest genetic match!
