….Many famous Californians and non-Californian politicians have expressed support for the chain, posting pictures of themselves eating burgers, including actor James Woods, former Vice President Mike Pence and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) among many others.

But Florida's chief financial officer, Jimmy Patronis, took his support to another level — inviting the head of In-N-Out to set up shop in Florida.

He wrote In-N-Out owner Lynsi Snyder to express his support and invite her to move the company's headquarters to Florida.

He wrote as a small business owner, not just as Florida's CFO, he said. "I know how hard it is to turn a profit and make payroll on a good day, let alone when your own government is working to crush your business with absurd mandates," he wrote. "Once I heard the news of your shutdown for refusing to act as 'vaccine police,' I knew I had to reach out immediately."

He thanked Snyder for her courage to oppose government overreach, noting that he's pro-vaccine and anti-mandate.

Under Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, therapeutics and treatments for the coronavirus were administered without harsh lockdowns and mandates, he adds, and the state recently fined the Leon County government $3.5 million for firing employees over COVID-19 vaccine requirements.

Florida currently has the lowest COVID positivity rates in the U.S….

    Californication’s
strict regulatory regime and oppressive mandates are causing small and large business flight. A lot of working and middle class people are fleeing Ca. as well. California has the worst tax rate and business unfriendly rate in the nation. Florida has fewer regulations, no state income tax, and no state mandates.

Part of the reason for in and outs popularity is they tightly control their supply chain to assure top quality.

It would take some time to secure such a supply chain in say Florida.

I could see moving their corporate office there.

I've got 3 in and outs within 10 miles so I'm good!

It’s the same supply chain thing with White Castles, i don’t think they go west of the Mississippi.

I hope I&O moves out of CA. When enough companies do it CA just might come around to making changes.

    Yup.

The state was very different when it opened for business in 1948.

Fender guitars was in Fullerton, now.its.corporate is in AZ.

My dad was friends with Carl Karcher. We'd go to one of the original Carls Jr and have lunch with him.

I thought Fender was in Corona, Ca, one block over from where I used to work. When did they move?

Fender wasn't the only factory in that area. Off the top of my head, I know there was a model airplane factory, a fireworks factory, a surfboard factory. There were even some smaller scale factories producing carpet materials, metal awnings for porches, and custom skylights.
The fireworks factory closed due to the danger of encroaching suburban developments, combined with competition from China, and probably also mounting levels of legal liability for worker hazards, something that doesn't exist as much in other areas.
Fender had borderline hazardous working conditions with all the paint solvents involved, but the state's increasing environmental regulations really put a burden on them.
The surfboard factory faced a combination of cheaper competition from China combined with expensive environmental pollution regulations.
Rising land and rent costs also began to make factories less viable. Ironically as population increased, factories disappeared.
Also demographics changed. A lower middle class workforce could no longer afford to live there. They were replaced by a much more unskilled (and often non-English speaking) workforce that just could not have the same level of craft skill needed to produce a higher quality product. (This of course made it impossible to compete with cheap Chinese imports)

The factory and custom shop still is in Corona. But headquarters moved to Scottsdale. Most of Fenders production is in Ensenada Mexico.

The Fender museum in Corona is gone now too. They had one of Johhny Cash's Esquires and one of Kurt Cobains prototypes.

Yeah growing up I didn't realize that Fender ave. In Fullerton was named after Leo Fender. G&L (also founded by Leo) bought the original Fender factory and his corner office is undisturbed from the day he died in 1991 I think. I knew a guy who worked there and claimed it was haunted. Rickenbacher is local too.

That whole area was light industrial and orange groves back then.

Trust me, you would like them if they expanded to the East. They are a lot like Chick Fil a in the manner that they are privately held family owned, operated, and maintain customer loyalty.

You are right. It is corporate HQ that De Santis is discussing. I’m sure the invitation is somewhat symbolic as in and out is a west coast and Texas business. The Florida government policies and the In and Out business philosophy are quite comparable. I’ve got two of them within 3 miles of me, but the next nearest is 70 miles in Chico, Ca. I wish In and Out would add I-5 locations in Dunnigan, Williams, Willows, Red Bluff, Anderson between Redding and Sacramento.

I don't know how it is up there (Presuming Jefferson) but they always have a line of cars in the drive through.

Both locations are like that here in Redding. Our Chick Fil a is like that too. 15 to 20 car drive through lines are common and indoor dining is usually packed too.

I find In N Out is much more rewarding coming Out than going In...Even Chick-fil-A is better eating than that,

Why would a company move their headquarters to a state where they have no franchises?? Hmm??

Businesses were fleeing the state before Covid. I do hope it reaches a tipping point.

And a lot of people who live in San Francisco have to park outside because their home was built before a time when garage space existed. Or their garage space was converted into a room because space is very limited (due to the small lot size of the homes). This is extremely common in the San Francisco Bay Area. Or with the newest developments, there is not enough space for any garage, since the homes are so narrow and residences are on top of each other. So many people do not have a garage space to park their car under. They have to park on the street. Of course this is part of the reason an empty parking space can be so hard to find in many neighborhoods in that area. The people have money but do not have the space.

This probably makes them more vulnerable to break-ins.

So strange, republicans cheer them on for not following the recommendations of the trump Covid task force.
Their food is mediocre and takes an hour to get near me.

Taxes…No state income tax there. Texas is no income tax and they have franchises there so that really could happen.

Yes, having no state income tax seems to be attracting a lot of Democrats.
When you have lower taxes and less regulations and fewer legal worries over running your business, everything ends up being a lot cheaper.
All those non-government jobs and cheap houses seem to be in Texas.
