You will shortly see the "Donor" banner on the left by your credits.

If you got the acknowledgment then the money went where it should have gone. In a few days you will log on and find a fancy new donor tag under your credits!

Don't you mean the right side...or do you have things backwards?

You are replying to a post almost a year old, from a member who hasn't been online in about as much time.

It recently came up that a member wanted to make an anonymous donation to Political Forum. They didn't want the Donor label and didn't want anyone to know that they had donated. If a member wants to make an anonymous donation I believe there are two ways to do this.

    1) Logout and then make a donation as a guest. It will not connect the donation to your user ID when you make the donation.

    2) There is an option of sending a message to the site owner when making a donation. Fill it out and instruct the site owner to make the donation anonymous.

Option #1 is obviously the best method as it doesn't require any intervention by the site owner but I believe either will work. Many individuals don't want public recognition and that is quite understandable but that should not prevent them from donating if they choose to help keep Political Forum alive and kicking.

Thank you to all that have donated to Political Forum in the past and that will do so in the future. Each of you are responsible for this forum existing and being as successful as it is.

I would like to say that I have only with-held donating to this Forum because of some reservations. I have taken several 1-3 month sabbaticals since registering here, not all in regards to what I have seen as 'Over-Modding' in some cases, but also for periods of staleness and excessive # of flame-baiting threads occurring almost simultaneously.

I have supported several forums in the past when I felt some what secure that I would still be around to 'enjoy' my $$$'s worth . [IMG]

Since returning about 12 days ago after 3 mos off, I have noticed a much more 'tolerant' response of the current batch of Mods in regards to "Off-Topic, Flame Bait, and Personal Attacks." Most members would agree that at least 1/2 all posts could fall into those categories, subjectively! As a former Mod of a forum much larger than this one, but having subsections for Religion as well as Politics, with both often going beyond 'spirited' and into 'heated,' the subjective decision making of we Mods was 'reigned in' by both the site Owner and the Admin. Aka, our ideologies were kept in chk, and we were kept honest.

I see a change for the better in that regards on this forum since coming back, and do plan on donating in the near future.

Kudos to all Mods, as it is a 'Thankless Labor of Love,' OD

Oh, BTW, that forum also provided a section requiring a 'Password" given out upon request by the Mods, to enter a portion of Politics with the disclaimer of being "Un-Moderated." 'No holds barred,' with the exception of 'personal threats' still being reportable...

Let me also add, that the Owner of the large forum that I mentioned (who was a software developer) created around 6-8 more forums (vBulletin Forum Software) & spaces (phpFoX software), covering specific topics such as : Pets, Religion, Politics, Social, Republican, Anti-Hillary, etc. and said that with all the ads, & sign on's, he was making over $100K/yr! So, 'free' forums dont have to suffer & struggle, but can be profitable if expanded in scope (which also brings more headaches..ha ha)...

Political Forum would never consider such a forum as Political Forum members that are not participating in that forum could and would be publically attacked. We would never allow that. It may work somewhere else but such a forum would violate the Mission Statement of Political Forum.

In spite of many allegations that Americans are all about greed and making money the site owner of Political Forum has never sought to make a profit from this forum. For years it operated at a loss and only recently has the site owner been unable to carry the ongoing financial burden of the costs to run this site. Blame it on the economy.

The site owner has still not attempted to make any profit from this site but instead has merely wanted to break even on it. Could the site owner earn a profit from Political Forum? Probably but that has never been the intent or purpose of Political Forum.

Actually it was two members but we do have a huge archive going back many years. It would be very interesting to have some of those thread from 2006 or whenever restored but they were archived because there were so many that the exceeded the database capabilities.

I think it only uses Paypal...you can set up a Paypal using your Visa card if you like, takes a few minutes but it's very convenient.

Paypal is the safest way of buying or donation anything over the internet - so consider that. :)

It's been awhile since I used a credit card to donate but it used to be allowed. I had to click on the Paypal option and then it provided an option to donate with a credit card. It was confusing because I had to start the donation as if I was using PayPal before the credit card option came up.

Post Script - I just checked and the option to use a credit card remains. From the Donate screen click on PayPal and then it give you the option of "Don't have a PayPal account" that will take you to the credit card screen.

No to be petty, but when do the gold bars get updated? I donated in April and new gold bars never showed up and I donated in July and should have several gold bars now...
