    They're two different reasons!

Have you never considered that some things are bad for multiple reasons?

Not at all. They're two different issues, entirely.

    1) One person hogging the same amount of resources (ie a home, its contents, utilities, etc) that could be shared, has real world negative implications. There are millions upon millions of people squeezing into tiny shacks - thus reducing their individual footprint dramatically, and we think it's perfectly okay to hog a whole home to ourselves? Irrespective of the size of the home, that's just plain terrible. Even the smallest studio can fit two, and in the Third World would easily take a family. This one is about the ENVIRONMENT.

    2) I'm offended by people who demand tax payer funding to live in circumstances beyond their means, just because they prefer it. I'm not offended by people paying their own way to have the housing/location they prefer. This one is about MONEY.

US crime stats just came out today, I suspect some of this is due to the housing situation.
