You like it better than LauncherPro?

    What exactly does Tasker do?

I've heard Zeam is faster than LauncherPro, but I do like the gestures in Zeam. I don't remember LauncherPro having that feature.

Tasker is for automating tasks. I mainly use it at work. When I'm in range of my works WiFi network my phone goes to vibrate mode. When I leave the ringer turns back on. I've also used it to turn on gps automatically when using certain apps. It's really versatile.

I am kinda attached to LauncherPro but GoLauncher looks pretty good too.

I have four installed right now; ADW, LauncherPro, GoLauncher and the Windows7 launcher. I use an app called Home Switcher to swap between them when I want to. But LauncherPro is my normal launcher. It has the smoothest frame rate of all of them and seems to be more flexible in a lot of ways. And I use the widgets it comes with.

I had that Regina 3D launcher installed for a bit but it was butt slow. At least it was for me. Looks cool though.

Google Goggles: Takes pictures of things and tells you what they are. Not so good with 3d objects.

    AndChat: IRC client I like.

    ConnectBot: ssh/telnet terminal

DownDroid: Downloader that reconnects when broken instead of starting over. Nice if you are downloading distributions or something large.

Advanced Task Manager: The best way to handle programs/etc that just wont die.

Google Sky Map: A window to the universe around you.

Linda Manager: A great file manager.

Moov: A thing that organizes everything on your phone alphabetically... contacts, programs, whatever. Just type a few characters and it dials everything down.

Personal Notes: Pron... Pron that doesn't look like its pron and requires a password to enter.

    Port Scanner: A port scanner.

    Speed: A (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)in spedometer

Tricorder: The most awesomest tool what ever was. It provides absolute vector, magnitude, and raw data as a gravimeter/seismograph, as a magnetometer measuring magnetic flux, an acoustic meter, a geographic meter/compass/GPS... an electromagnetic spectrometer, and solar monitor, telling you more than you could possibly want to know about the state of the sun. Of course it makes Star Trek noises.

    The US Constitution: The USC.

Visual Voicemail: This is a pay app... I could not live without it. It just dumps voicemails and data into a visual cue, keeping them as mp3s and removing them from your dial in system. Great when you are on the road.

Units Convert: Converts anything to anything.

Wardrive: A war driver app... you drive around and it finds open wifi, and saves the locations for you using google maps.

Xscope: The best, hands down, web browser. Multitouch and gestures.

These are the most awesome apps I use frequently. There are of course more.

Wow, I thought I knew about all the best apps. I will take a look at some of those. Wardrive sounds potentially very useful.

So visual voice mail converts voicemails to text?

I am up for a free upgrade this September and I hear the Droid Bionic is supposed to be a pretty sweet phone. What's the word Sadistic?

No... it creates a menu of voicemails on receipt, and makes a visual cue, telling you who they are from and when. You tap one and it plays over speaker or ear piece. I am on the road a lot, and not having to go through the VM ritual is safer for me. When you delete them from your visual vm, it deletes them from your vm box as well. It is 2 dollars a month. You might check out bartor too. If you scan a dvd or cd, it will try and find it in a torrent and download it as well as the cover art. I don't steal movies or music... but I found it an interesting application.

    Wardrive is very useful.

    My advice is to wait.

At the very least the Galaxy S2 is coming out soon, and that phone will almost certainly kick ass. The reviews are universally positive. Dual-core + SuperAMOLED = Awesome. One other thing I like about Samsung is that they are very root friendly. Of course, this might not be as relevant anymore now that Google is buying Motorola...

And if you can wait a little longer, there will be phones out late this year that have HD screens. Possibly SuperAMOLED HD screens. They will have 720p resolutions.

The Bionic doesnt suck. It has a qHD display (960x540, compared to 800 x 480 for SuperAMOLED screens) and is 1ghz dual core CPU. It is a 4G Phone and can record 1080p video. It has a low-light capable camera which might be useful (having used a Droid 1 for a few years, I envy this...the Droid takes awesome pictures, but only in good light. In low light it sucks). I think the Bionic has 1 gig of RAM, which is very very nice. 512 megs is good enough, but if you are committing to a phone for another contract term (2-3 years) I would not get one with less than a gig.

The Galaxy S2 has 1.2ghz dual core, 1 gig RAM, SuperAMOLED display (800 x 480), 16 gigs internal storage, a front facing camera (probably...specs for Verizon's version are not officially public yet). Dont know what size SD card it will come with. It will also do 1080p video. I think Samsung might produce versions with 32 gigs internal storage, which would be awesome...Add an SD card and you would have 64 gigs of storage.

I personally have a boner for SuperAMOLED. Because of the way the tech works, it has very deep blacks that make images (both photos and videos) look very nice. I would rather have SuperAMOLED than the higher resolution of qHD or the iPhone's retina display. Its that good. Also, Samsung's AMOLED displays can be very bright, which is a bonus if you use your phone in sunlight a lot.

Basically, I am not seeing anything the Bionic has that the Galaxy S2 doesnt also have and better, except for screen resolution. If I had to choose I would choose the Galaxy S2. Only thing is that it is still unknown if it will be 4G. It might be, but we dont know yet. So if 4G is a big deal to you, you might want to go with the Bionic anyway.
