If herd immunity is the only option...it sure would be better if that 70% of infections occurred over time rather than all at once. At least if that happens, those most at risk of dying would have a chance of avoiding being in that group.

It also means there is more time to develop a treatment (which was how AIDS was dealt with) or a vaccine

Just "letting it happen" ...would ensure millions dead...mostly among those over 50 and those with any kind of medical condition.

And we can see that simply staying home...while it will reduce the numbers of infections at any one time if everyone does it, is not an effective protection. In NYC the majority of cases came from people who were not essential workers etc. Nursing homes certainly are "staying home as are prisons.

 

If you cannot get past your irrational fear - stay home.
