Federal Judge Terry A. Doughty issued a temporary injunction on Independence Day blocking members of the Biden administration from having further contact with social media companies during a censorship trial.

The judge, an appointee of President Donald Trump, is presiding over a case brought by Missouri and Louisiana challenging federal efforts to block alleged misinformation about the coronavirus and elections on social media.

Critics allege that the federal government censored free speech, using private companies to carry out actions that it cannot take under the First Amendment. In so doing, critics say, the government stifled scientific debate, and weaponized social media platforms to help Democrats and hurt Republicans in recent elections.

    The Washington Post reported Tuesday:

The injunction came in response to a lawsuit brought by Republican attorneys general in Louisiana and Missouri, who allege that government officials went too far in their efforts to encourage social media companies to address posts that they worried could contribute to vaccine hesitancy during the pandemic or upend elections…

Interesting and great news that broke on our Independence Day. This ruling was much needed. The collaboration between government and corporate social media to get speech the government doesn’t like by other means since it’s limited by the 1A. Liberals would always say it’s the companies right to dictate speech on private platforms. Now that we know it’s been government getting them do do it on its behalf out of joint interest or failing that threatening said companies with more regulations if they did not censor on their behalf.

The judge by making this order is virtually implying enough evidence exists that government is censoring speech indirectly by getting others to do it on its behalf. Now they can’t meet and collaborate on news content control regarding this story either.

You forgot the word "too" in your first sentence. And ignore that Biden & Co. has been doing the same thing.

I'm just as upset that Trump & Co did this as I am at Biden & Co. How about you? Because so far you seem to care more about whataboutism and scoring political partisan points than you do the actual content and point of what is happening.

No, we do not know this-- isn't that what the trial is meant to determine? But very bold of you, to represent the Republican brand as being against needing trials, to determine guilt-- as long as it is Republicans, who do the determining.

There is no murkiness there, by the way, in how your own stance directly opposes America's founding principles.

The order is to prevent the government and the companies from doing more of what he already knows that they are and have been doing.

I too am disappointed that Trump didn’t know about and then reign in the FBI, DOJ, CDC and others in this regard.

I am no longer upset anytime a Democrat weaponizes something a Republican did. There is no reason for one side to play by the rules when the other doesn’t give a ****.

Maybe republicans will rethink the strategy of bypassing the American public’s to install justices, massive gerrymandering and using their power to attack or control private corporations for their own benefit.

When Republicans go low democrats need to go lower

1: You act as if Democrats don't do the same things, even before your limit of "install justices" (referencing Garland).

2: A race to the bottom by both sides ends up with everyone at the bottom. Think that's good for the country?

3: You too seem to care more about whataboutism and scoring political partisan points than you do the actual content and point of what is happening.

No, he didn't. He posted a bunch hearsay on a social media platform of questionable honesty and called it evidence.

You guys really need to learn the difference between opinion and fact.

    They don’t “do the same”.

Then Republican politicians need to stop being pieces of trash trying to seize power when the people do not want them to have it. I would rather this nation burn than to give it over to our domestic enemies.

Saying an event is just a carryover from a prior administration isn’t a whataboutism.
