It's pretty simple. Almost all of media, academia, unions, NGOs and corporations (ie: the people who donate the bulk of the political money and support) hate the guy and what he represents, but you don't get extra votes because you're rich or have influence.

I'm Australian, and the recent Indigenous Voice to Parliament referendum failed miserably despite being supported by all of academia, media, corporations, etc and outspending the no campaign by more than 2:1. Sometimes the people (you know, the peasants who actually vote) just ain't buying it, and no amount of expensive political propaganda will change that.
