I was a very lucky 11 year old who got to be at WDW during the country’s bicentennial year. The parade is a memory I will never forget.

I’ve been looking for an economical way to convert my mother’s Super 8 movies for at least a decade. I finally found it. The sound is not great, and there’s a lot of shaking, but if you are a Disney World fan, you will enjoy this, despite the quality issues.

I’ve been wanting to share these memories forever.

    From my YouTube description

The quality on this transfer isn't great, especially the sound. I find watching it on the tablet worked best for me. Mom liked to play with different filters, so the lighting changes. She was also quite shaky at times. Despite that, it is well worth a watch for Disney fans, to see what WDW was like way back then.

    Cast of characters:
Jim - Age 13; light blue jersey
Kathy (me) - Age 11; blue jacket
Christine - Age 9; green jacket
Adults are mom, dad & their best friends.

    Skip guide (rides)
    5:10 - 7:50 Country Bear Jamboree
    7:50 - 9:05 Pirates
    11:30 - 15:45 Small World

    The good stuff includes:
    Character interactions -
Christine being dragged down the street by Brer Fox -
Brer Fox and Chip (or Dale) playing tug of war with Mickey -
Goofy refused to shake Kathy's hand

Dapper Dans show off for mom's camera

    Bicentennial Main Street Parade
    The Disney Skyway!
Drained 20,000 Leagues viewed from Skyway.

    Polynesian Village -
Lagoon fun that is no longer allowed, including swimming! -
Goofy water skiing and landing on the Polynesian beach to greet the kids -
Waterfall by the pool (Parents told the staff they were from the Chicago Sun Times and asked if they could keep the waterfall on longer. They did!) -
Lagoon light parade, including a special patriotic light show for the bicentennial

Thanks for sharing. Disney is a magical place and always brings back fond memories. It is amazing that rides like Pirates and Small World have changed so little in close to 50 years. The transfer came out quite well. Did you do it yourself of pay a company to do it?

I waited patiently for a quote less than $2,000. Now, I’m sending him about 50 shorter reels, since it came out well enough for the enjoyment.

it was under $500. I imagine the $2,000 version would be better, but it’s not worth it.

I don't know if you ever consider these products. They are probably not nearly as good as professional company but very affordable. You could always order one from Amazon and if you are not happy with the results return it.

    https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Wolverine+MovieMaker+Pro+8mm+&+Super+8+1080p&crid=2NTCFFJC777WQ&sprefix=wolverine+moviemaker+pro+8mm+&+super+8+1080p,aps,127&ref=nb_sb_noss

Keep in mind the unit in the video does not support sound. Your super 8 reels has sound so it will not transfer over. You would have to do that separately which may be difficult.

That’s why I had a professional do it. He struggled with it. I appreciate he got it at all. The sound and narration adds so much context. I kept the source material. The technology will get better.

Very cool! I grew up near Disneyland and went there 2 to 3 times a year up until my mid teens. Great memories,

When I was sixteen a few friends and I went to Disneyland. One of them had some kind of drug that we snorted. I don't even remember what it was but we were having an absolute blast! About the time it got dark it started to rain, hard. The entire park emptied out but we didn't feel a thing. So we essentially had the entire place our ourselves. I remember going on Space Mountain and running the circuit six times without even getting off. When the ride ended, we just waved the operators to push us through and they did. No one was in line anyway!

There were a few years where I did things I shouldn't have done [drugs] and this was certainly in the heart of that. But damn we we had fun! The only down side was that we went to my favorite restaurant - the Blue Bayou - which overlooks Pirates of the Caribbean. They made the most amazing Monte Cristo sandwiches! OMG they were fantastic. Spendy but worth every dime. But I caught hell from my friends after convincing them to go there. We couldn't taste a thing!
