Worse than that. Without the drug, 11% death rate among the test group. With the drug: 28%.

I sure wish he'd keep that cake hole shut.

Trump's response, "I barely know the guy. What's his name? Hydroxycholoroquine? Yea, you may have a picture of me with him, but I don't know him at all."

from what i understand, the doctor who started this hype is some moron in an Ultra-Orthodox community 50 miles north of NYC. he provided no backup or data for his results, simply claimed "it works!!!! u gotta try this!!!"

Guiliani jumped onboard and so did Trump.

So will you blame the doc more than Trump, or will you go back to blaming Trump? Or at least have some modicrum of consistency to blame both?

This was one of 20, TWENTY possible drugs identified for repurposed purposes. That means there's still another 19 drugs worth testing and figuring out, or a combination therein.

I blame the quack doctor for starting this garbage and I blame Trump for spewing the fake news hype all over American media.

Trump also praised remdisivir, which has clinically shown promise(and is one of the 19 other drugs.) Should we continue clinical studies on these other 19 drugs to find effective COVID-19 treatments? I'm just going down the list to ensure consistency.

Because Trump's only 'crime' was not being as measured as Dr. Fauci, but they saw the same intel.

There is obviously some benefit to some who are given this drug as many different countries have shown. The patients in this study were the most severe, critically ill already, maybe too far gone. Also, the trial has not been peer reviewed, also not a randomized clinical trial. Maybe another trial with patients who are not as critical will show the benefit.

I know you lefties are excited but still more studies needed. There are dozens of medications being studied. I think the left will be for whatever Trump doesn't mention.

Please quote him calling it a miracle or a cure never mind miracle cure.

    Btw.. READ YOUR OWN ARTICLES.

"This was not a clinical trial. It is simply an analysis of retrospective data regarding hospitalized patients," she told Fox News, via email. "The findings should not be viewed as definitive because the analysis doesn’t adjust for patients’ clinical status and showed that hydroxychloroquine alone was provided to VA’s sickest COVID-19 patients, many times as a last resort."

I think we should STILL study cloro, just not on ventilated folks. It KILLS them.

When Trump said, give it to them all, they are dying anyway, that is NUTZ.

You did not read the article nor were you capable of copy and pasting an article headline..... So someone should listen to you for what reason?

"About 28 percent who were given hydroxychloroquine plus usual care died, versus 11 percent of those getting routine care alone. About 22 percent of those getting the drug plus azithromycin died too, but the difference between that group and usual care was not considered large enough to rule out other factors that could have affected survival."

this drug actually killed people who would have survived if they had not taken it!!!

"An association of increased overall mortality was identified in patients treated with hydroxychloroquine alone."

BAD SCIENCE: Five Problems With the Study That Claims ‘More Deaths’ From Treating Coronavirus With Hydroxychloroquine.

    5. It was a small, non-peer-reviewed study, not a clinical trial

Previous studies showing the promise of hydroxychloroquine in treating the coronavirus have been downplayed by the media because they were small studies, not large-scale clinical trials. This study was not a controlled clinical trial, but an analysis of medical records, and it hasn't been reviewed by other scientists yet.

Even the Associated Press noted that the difference in fatality between those given hydroxychloroquine plus azithromycin "was not considered large enough to rule out other factors that could have affected survival." You think?

    4. The patients were not representative of the entire population

Coronavirus has a higher fatality rate with males, older people are more likely to be affected by it, most who die from it had other illnesses. The patients whose records were analyzed for this study were all male. The patients' ages ranged from 59 to 75, with a median age of 70 (for those treated with hydroxychloroquine), 68 (for those treated with hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin), and 69 (for those receiving standard treatment alone). The patients were also disproportionately black. According to the census, 13.4 percent of United States population is black, but in the study, 68% (HC), 59% (HC+AZ), and 65% (No HC) of the patients were black. There is a known racial disparity in how the coronavirus impacts those who contract it that isn't fully understood yet.

It doesn't just make them sicker, it kills them. By touting this drug over and over to the point where the VA had little choice but to conduct trials, Trump has the blood of some of our veterans on his hands.

He really does need to ****.

When results were unknown, he was being accused of buying up all the stock for his own personal gain. Have you noticed all the commercials for class action lawsuits against pharm companies? "If you or a family member died from taking, ..... you may be entitled to compensation."

Weren't all these drugs deemed "Safe and effective" by our own FDA? Maybe government controlled healthcare is not such a great idea!

Odd that you write that this claim is bad science when exactly the same points apply to the study that Trump proclaimed gave great results but used an even smaller sample and was also not peer reviewed!

It never ceases to amaze me, the horse pucky Trump's supporters are willing to spout in his defense.

He had them experimenting using our veterans as guinea pigs (they volunteered, but still ...), with the result being a much higher death rate than the control group that did not get the hydroxychoroquine treatment. Reckless at best.

    See comment #24.

I'm reasonably confident that this thread is about this:

    https://www.marketwatch.com/story/h...enefit-and-more-deaths-in-va-study-2020-04-21

Please lose the snark. Personal insults are frowned upon here. I suggest you dismount from that high horse you're on before you get a nosebleed.
