OK, I have to admit, when I first read this story and noted the date, I thought it was an April Fool's joke. But since it's on the local CBS affiliate and I've never known them to play jokes... gotta assume it's true. Not sure how I feel about this program, but follow the link and read the comments and you'll see plenty of folks have strong opinions about it. read more: Free Gun Program Plans To Expand To North Texas « CBS Dallas / Fort Worth I've thought it over... and HELL YEAH, I WANT A FREE SHOTGUN! Gimme one!!! How 'bout you? Is this program a Deal or Dud?
Let's face it, most home break-ins are drug-related... looking for easy money to buy drugs. Even druggies would pass by a house if they knew the resident owned a shotgun.. even if it was a single woman. (or maybe especially!) I think they should hand out little stickers for the front door with each shotgun:
I'll go with this. I just hope they can still buy ammo. It isn't just for drugs. Down in Texas way, they break in for other things like rape and murder. It's about time this country started to wake up, because the enemy is in our homes and lives. And it just isn't the the criminals on the streets. They are also holding office. Hell, it could even be your neighbor, today who would sell you out to the centurions for a few scheckles
Many of these single women in high crime urban wastelands may have clean records, but many of them have (multiple) boyfriends and baby-daddies who are criminals themselves. They will be more than happy to have a new source of weapons for their activites that they can simply pick-up and use. I think a better program would be to give these free arms to honest people in these bad areas who actively inform on gangs and other criminals.
I like this program however to complete it the administrators need to add a training course on the correct and deliberate mindset when your defensive weapon is in your hand. Prep for the aftermath/consequences
As long as the recipients of these guns have to pass the NICS as if they were buying the gun I am not morally opposed to giving them guns. Fiscally though the government is throwing a lot of money away and we need to be making cuts somewhere to better balance the budget. I don't necessarily think this is absolutely stupid financially speaking, but it couldn't hurt to rethink the budget some while considering this.
Does this ease your mind? Also I don't think the gubberment is throwing money eh? Tucson Tucson as well. Now this is the mentality of the antis eh? Go after the ogre??? How about defend my life....how ignorant.
