In the George Zimmerman murder case, attorneys are to appear at 4 p.m. today in a Sanford courtroom to discuss whether to delay his "stand your ground" hearing.

That's the hearing at which Zimmerman is expected to testify that he killed Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black 17-year-old, because he believed the teenager was about to kill him.

If Circuit Judge Debra S. Nelson is convinced, she'll throw out the second-degree murder charge Zimmerman faces.

Trayvon was killed Feb. 26 in Sanford by Zimmerman, a Neighborhood Watch volunteer. The teenager's death spurred civil rights marches in Sanford, across the country and beyond.

In October, the judge set a timeline, requiring defense attorneys to conclude the "stand your ground" hearing by April 26.


Last week, she rejected defense attorneys' request to delay Zimmerman's June 10 trial, but they hadn't asked and she didn't rule on whether they would get more time to prepare for the "stand your ground" hearing.

In court paperwork made public yesterday, defense attorney Mark O'Mara wrote that he expects that hearing to last up to two weeks and wants to talk about scheduling.

Last week, after the judge rejected his request for a trial delay, he said he could not possibly be ready for either the "stand your ground" hearing or trial on June 10.

Zimmerman is not expected at today's 30-minute hearing.

Jesus Christ the press won't let the stand your ground issue go. The defense isn't arguing stand your ground and this hearing is called an immunity hearing not a stand your ground hearing.

 

If the defense isn't going to argue stand your ground I think George is in trouble

 

No it makes it far easier. They are arguing traditional self defense. Zimmerman was mounted and being pummelled when he used deadly force. Stand your ground doesn't apply here.

O'Mara also wanted to finalize a date for the "stand your ground" hearing, in which the judge will decide if there is enough evidence to go to trial, or if the case should be dismissed. That hearing must be held by the end of April.

She also ordered 500 potential jurors, more than the Seminole County Courthouse can hold, for Zimmerman's second-degree murder trial.

At the stand-your ground hearing, Zimmerman is expected to testify that he killed Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black 17-year-old, because he believed the teenager was about to kill him.

Zimmerman won't get an impartial jury anywhere in the US

 

I don't know..I tried to watch a little of the Jodie Arias trial.. So disgusting.

Enveloping an immunity hearing into the trial is if you have no defense. Boy, sure is a mess.

 

500 potential jurors will be sifted thru. Hopefully, they can weed out the idiots that think George is guilty:

It really shouldn't past the SYG hearing. There is no probable cause that GZ was not defending his life.

Oh we see. "The Defense is asking for a jury pool of 500". But IN FACT!!!!!!!! the judge ordered the number to be 500. Nice try but at this point it's so easy to sit back and watch you disgrace yourself with falsehoods and misleading claims it's sort of getting "creepy". Like going to one of those carnivals and looking at a pathetic old bare breasted African women sitting on a pile of dirty straw with a sign above claiming she is the former Swiss Gold medal winner of the Grand Slalom.

 

Yes actually. And that is in fact what is driving you all crazy. In your hearts you know what happened but you can not allow yourselves to accept the truth. Well, a jury will tell you the truth. If you are unable at that point to accept it you'll just have to deal with it. What I can say is pretty soon after George walks you all are going to be jumping on another soon to be dead horse. 'It's what you do to get your day in'. Just like there's about a dozen people in the country convinced beyond any doubt that if they eat the dog poop from only Chow Chows they will live forever. Same number who think George stalked and chased down and murdered TM come to think of it.

 

Actually the large majority of Americans think Zimmerman is a murderer. He's going to prison and theres nothing that can stop that
