I am British, and ever since I can recall, when people donate blood here, it has ALWAYS been 'a pint'.

Is that the situ in US, Canada, elsewhere, a standard and set amount, which is precisely that amount?

Seems a lot, no? Always struck me as a lot. I know it comes back, but still. What would happen if a 1000 people offered half a pint? Are they going to turn that down, and what sense would that make? Surely 1000 giving a half pint, is better than nowt, no?

They also seem to spend a lot on advertising. Is it a good use of money, since most people see those types of acts, and don't react to them in the moment.

Would it not be better to have permanent stations, right across the busiest parts of a city, so that they got the daily footfall?

If you are under a certain height/weight you are not allowed to give blood I assume because taking a pint from someone so small would be taking too much. Allowing half a pint of blood from half pint people would open a door of opportunity.

They will take less than a pint, if that's all your body will give out. The thing is, it takes the same amount of money to process a half pint as it does to process a pint. Of course a pint is better.
In the U.S. they do have permanent stations, usually in a busy part of a city.

If I'm correct its about a pint, and if you are ready, you can give double. The reason they want pints is because 1/2 pints are too little for practical purposes and donating a certain amount isn't the problem, it's getting people to donate.

That's true. I have never been able to give blood because of my weight. They won't accept me.

Yeah, 2 pints. You have to be cleared before hand though, and they have to make sure they properly set you up for it. For example they need to make sure they don't puncture the vain's wall, or it causes internal bleeding when the blood goes back in.

Two pints is too much imo.

It's also trickier to pull off. You have to make sure you've eaten and drunk enough to do it. The staff also has to hook you up and stick the needle in the right place in order to do it anyways.

I think you should be able to stipulate if you don't want to donate something to a given type of person.

Imagine donating organs, and by some twist of fate, a rapist or paedo gets them?

So then racists could specify no blood to black people?

How about could I limit my blood donation to Christians?

A pint! That's nearly an armful!
