Gun carrying man ends stabbing spree at Salt Lake grocery store SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - A citizen with a gun stopped a knife wielding man as he began stabbing people Thursday evening at the downtown Salt Lake City Smith's store. Police say the suspect purchased a knife inside the store and then turned it into a weapon. Smith's employee Dorothy Espinoza says, "He pulled it out and stood outside the Smiths in the foyer. And just started stabbing people and yelling you killed my people. You killed my people." Espinoza says, the knife wielding man seriously injured two people. "There is blood all over. One got stabbed in the stomach and got stabbed in the head and held his hands and got stabbed all over the arms." Then, before the suspect could find another victim - a citizen with a gun stopped the madness. "A guy pulled gun on him and told him to drop his weapon or he would shoot him. So, he dropped his weapon and the people from Smith's grabbed him." By the time officers arrived the suspect had been subdued by employees and shoppers. Police had high praise for gun carrying man who ended the hysteria. Lt. Brian Purvis said, "This was a volatile situation that could have gotten worse. We can only assume from what we saw it could have gotten worse. He was definitely in the right place at the right time." Dozens of other shoppers, who too could have become victims, are also thankful for the gun carrying man. And many, like Danylle Julian, are still in shock from the experience. "Scary actually. Really scary. Five minutes before I walk out to my car. It could have been me." Police say right now they have no idea what caused the suspect to go on the dangerous rampage. I was under the impression police are there to stop all crimes before they occur, and operate in a capacity beyond being a simply reactionary force.
This was from back in April, and never made the news outside of SLC as far as I can tell. We are responsible for our own protection. If you wish to put your safety in the hands of the police or those around you, that is your business. If you wish to arm yourself so you can stop someone attacking you or from attacking others, that is your business also. Nobody should be able to take away a person's right to defend themselves and those around them.
What the intellectual commie liberal doodoo gooders don't understand is: Its ok if THEY don't want guns. Its ok if THEY want to depend on the police. Just like we think its OK for them to drive a prius, give their money away in welfare, (insert almost any ideal they like here), etc.... BUT DON'T MAKE ME HAVE TO SEE IT YOUR WAY.

So did they throw the guy with the gun into prison and confiscate his house while sending the knifer to a mental hospital for 2 months and early release for good behavior?

The would-be intruders cut the power to the house. You really have to wonder what these intruders might have done to the man's family if he had not been prepared with a gun. It could have just been a regular robbery... or the woman and possibly her daughters could have ended up raped, or worse— the whole family could have been massacred so as not to leave any witnesses. These things tragically happen in America, more often than you might think. The national media doesn't always report these type of things, unless they think it can serve some political agenda.
I would assume if they cut the power..... I doubt very seriously they had positive thoughts directed towards the family.
Civilized people in favor of gun control let the perp stab or even kill some people, then let the police handle it. It is the humane and progressive thing to do.
Why does it matter if people can stop stabbers with firearms, there is a legitimate use for guns and so you can't outlaw them. Full stop.
And this is a point I have been trying to make here - if you want guns have them but these silly "look see - it worked here!" exemplars really prove nothing
