Guns & Stand Your Ground victory. Got a problem with that? video included.

Good advice about carrying a concealed weapon and going out of your way to avoid confrontations. Even a justified shooting is probably at a minimum going to require thousands of dollars in legal expenses.

 

Which is likely why the so-called "stand your ground" laws are gaining greater public support, and there is a push for such nationwide. There is no sound, rational, logical reason for why a private individual should have to face bankruptcy trying to prove that they are innocent, simply because a prosecutor believes it is possible to make a case against them and their actions. This is especially so when prosecutors are immune to charges of malicious prosecution, and are shielded from the consequences of their actions.

 

In this case that would be: "If you defend your girlfriend... and you're black... and in Florida... get ready to get shot. And get ready for the shooter to walk free."

I agree with stand your ground laws. But I dont think shooting was necessary. The attacker was walking away after he saw the gun. No need to pull the trigger unless the attack continues.

 

I disagree. The attacker was backing off when shot. The second he saw the gun **** got real. If he lunged or tried to continue the attack I agree the shooting is justified. In this case, I dont think it was necessary. Legal? I think, but that depends on a jury.

 

You have a funny idea what the word defend means. The attacked man was standing a few feet from the girlfriends car with his hands at his sides. So his questioning why she was in a handicapped space is to you an attack. Whereas a man violently shoved to the ground in a potentially life threatening way is not an attack.

 

People talk about what they would do or not do -- but until a life or death situation happens you really don't know what you would do or not do. And what you might do could differ from day to day, which was the well articulated message of Steven Crane's Red Bad of Courage - a novel that is probably no longer required reading in school.

Are you blind? The man pushed to the ground was several feet from the car talking to the girl friend. Several feet. The girl friend then got out of the car to escalate. At which point McGlockton blindsided him with a vicious attack. What is it you think you are seeing. Describe how you see the girl friend being attacked.

 

I voted yes but only because of my circumstance. I'll be 84 in one week and if I'm even threatened to be hit by someone I'll consider my life in danger.

I am seeing a guy running out of a store to defend his girlfriend from a known thug who is visibly threatening her.

I don't see the girl getting out of the car, but I would imagine she should get out of the car, given that her 4 month old and her 3 year old were in the car and a responsible mother wouldn't want them a target of this killeer's attacks.

I also see a guy ready and willing to shoot an unarmed black man because he knows that Florida law will protect him.

I read Seth's comments and he has a history of long time being a law enforcement officer.

They do not show the man getting shot and the person shot going back inside the store, but clearly he was shot and clearly he died.

The shooter in my view lacked the skill nor the legal authority to be lecturing the woman in the car. He was jawboning her for minutes. A person goes into the store in alarm, and informs them in the store a lot of hell raising is happening outside.

We then find her boyfriend marches out and with no further words of warning, shoves down the shooter. Then as the gun is pulled, per the Sheriff, the man stands there glaring at the shooter. Then the shooter shoots.

So far the sheriff is on the side of the Shooter and he knows the Florida law.

Since his lady in the car was not in imminent danger from the shooter, the best way not to get shot is discussion but not slamming to the ground. The DA of course can try to press charges and hope a jury would convict.

I urge all Democrats to think of this the way you think of abortions. You may complain but can't restore life.

Because for "Stand your Ground" to apply, you need to show that you believed your life was threatened. Law enforcement knows that jurors are more likely to believe that a black guy is more threatening. They don't even bother to arrest the white guy.

Again you seem to think being black matters. I saw the video of the Sheriff fully explaining why he has not arrested the shooter. The Sheriff was quite alarmed how the shooter was thrown to the ground.

 

Also, your well know thug comment should apply to McGlockton. He is the one with the previous arrest for aggravated assault.

This is where we are at now that we shoot people who shove us? The guy who did the shoving just stood there after the shove. He didn’t advance on the guy to indicate further attack. Clearly the guy on the ground couldn’t fight his way out of a wet paper bag, which is why he needs to carry a gun. In other words he’s a p#$$&.

 

I know what I would do because I've done it multiple times. So it's not just idle imagining to me. I'm a retired police officer with over 30 years on the street.

 

If somebody assaults me and knocks me to the ground he might just get shot. It might cost me several thousand to deal with the legal bulls**t afterwards but at least nobody will be paying for my funeral.
