This is the same lawyer btw who represented the woman with the altered yearbook accusing Moore, if you are... well... unaware of shitty famous lawyers.

This girl has been dealt a great disservice by those who were charged with protecting her, and it is sickening. I am not faulting Obama etc... it is just a shame is all.

Not for nothing, I did an image search to find the smirk because I recognized her and what returns is... compounding.

In Maroney's case, I don't believe she understood the extent of the abuse/cover up, and the number of victims, or she'd likely not have agreed to this settlement.

 

This story reveals how those in power rely upon secrecy. They wanted this all swept under the rug in an effort to keep their reputation.

Good for Makayla for exposing their deception.

USA Gymnastics is following the lead of government secrecy. Keep it hidden and nobody knows the truth.

 

The carp is hitting the pan at this point; people are resigning/being let go, facilities are closing down, and a Congressional investigation may occur to see if people other than Nassar are legally liable for this epidemic of abuse and its cover up. Stay tuned!

Outside of psychological abuse, bullying by coaches, sexual abuse, coverups, and enabling pedophiles?

 

There are all kinds of lawyers. Representing the side of the defendant is a job and not easy. I don't blame the lawyer.

This girl was dealt a great disservice by her parents or guardians. I do not know why they had no clue this was going on. They are at fault, as well. They did not take care of their daughter and keep her safe. They need investigated and punished along with the doctor who did these sick things.

Obama has always been an instigator and not a problem solver. This reaction of his is nothing new, but certainly popular. Why? I think it is sick and proves it is not as important to him as most others. How can this be joked about? I don't understand.

USA Gymnastics is part of a greater whole, called the Olympics and this is just the tip of the iceberg. It's time to dismantle the whole industry. They are all part of this in some manner. It will never be exposed due to the money involved and the nations which want to be relevant. The world is a sick place.

While I feel sorry about the girls, the predator did confess and now will be a ward of the state for life. He needs no new jobs nor places to eat.

I happen to think when he started to molest the girls, they were not really aware of what he really did to them. To them it must have seemed proper since he was a doctor. But once they experienced pleasure, then it become something else for them. I think in their hearts, they too feel guilt. They kept going back when years and years ago, they had the power to bring it to the authorities. When they did, the Doctor got sentenced to prison. They waited far too late or they could have kept later girls from the same fate. Being a doctor, he no doubt manipulated them to enhance pleasure.

No matter from which angle one looks at this Gloria Allred here seems to have crossed a legal line. Demanding money by threatening criminal action or accepting money not to report a crime is a crime.

Further, depending on what State the child abuse was alleged to have happened in, Gloria Allred could be considered a mandatory reporter.

Of course advising her child client to contact law enforcement wouldn't have preserved her 'pay day', it would though have been the right thing to do and would have, in this case, saved many others from sexual assault.

Allred is one sick puppy.

"USA Gymnastics cannot speak to the mediation process, which is confidential and privileged under California law," the statement said. "The process culminated in a settlement agreement that included a mutual nondisclosure clause and a mutual nondisparagement clause."

 

Whatever it is, as an outsider looking in, my guess is that it's been going on for a fairly long time.

I agree with this concerning the lawyer, but the parents, not the gymnast knew and were at a greater fault, though the legalities are fairly foreign to me. Not only the lawyer, but the parents and the Olympic Committee, and I bet this type of agreement was common, are all at fault. I think Allred is intelligent enough to know what you have posted, but felt safe enough due to it's commonality. She is in it for the money, as has been her motive in the past. Most high profile cases involve huge wealth and an opportunity to take some for oneself. We are talking government funds here. In essence, we are all at fault.
