    It's Earth Day.

What are your plans to promote and celebrate the occasion?

I'm gonna chop down the beautiful, 100-year-old oak tree in my front yard (which is infested with endangered woodpeckers), and drain my anti-freeze over a curbside storm gutter. :earth:

Make America energy independent: drill, dig and nuke!

    Yes, Happy Earth Day!
To celebrate, let's give a bunch of taxpayer money to a useless "green" technology company(redundancy), who will then waste all that money, file for bankruptcy & who's CEO will walk away without losing a dime. Oh, wait a minute, Obama doesn't need Earth Day in order to "accomplish" that.

Isn't your money better off in your pocket than going to an electric company? The answer has to be yes. Name the green tech companies (plural) that went under and the CEOs walked. You cannot. Oil and coal still get tax payer subsidies while making huge profits, where's your outrage on that? There is none.

My home is now 98% finished with LED bulbs. That's a green tech that's here to stay and saves me cash. My new roof is energy saving white recyclable to reflect sun, last longer, reduce A/C costs. Roofs are here to stay. My A/C unit is new and utilizes a separate pre-cooler to improve efficiency and save money. A/C isn't leaving anytime soon. I modified my attic to stay cooler than ever before. That's smart thinking, not left thinking.

What it comes down to is that you associate a new technology with progressive or liberal politics when it's apolitical... that means it is not specific to any political point of view... green tech is just good economics. If you enjoy paying more for the same services, you need to seek help. It's a good thing air travel and cars did not come about this decade or you'd trash them.

Ignoring an obvious point or arguing against it with only one example of a failure is just stupid.

Can't say I celebrated but do note that this, like the Clean water Act, was started under Nixon.

    Oh. get your panties unbunched.
What you do in your house sounds great. I'm all in favor of saving energy, using alternate energy when viable & recycling. I've been recycling various things for years.
I'm more than ok with "Earth Day" as a practice. As a Christian, I believe when God said we should be good stewards of the earth, I take it seriously.
I have some green stocks & I used to own some stock in the battery technology(Hydrogenics Corp) for the Fisker car - losers all.
But here's my problem: When we have environmental extremists & a President, whos goal is to keep energy prices high (need I break out Obama's "under my plan, electricity prices must necessarily skyrocket..." video clip? or mention David Chu?) want to shove down our throats "green" technology that in many cases isn't ready to do the job, be efficient & cost effective - I don't like it. Why is our govt. still forcing ethanol even when the Al Gore AND the UN say it is WORSE for the environment than traditional gas?
Here's a list of Green Tech losers. Usually when biz' go bankrupt, the owners just write it off & in many of these cases, the taxpayers are the losers.
As far as I know, oil & coal companies do not get subsidies, they get tax breaks, which is not a subsidy. Green tech co.'s are the one getting out & out tax money from the govt. The govt. gets a lot more money from a gallon of gas than the oil co. from what I understand, also.
I'm actually ok with taxpayer money going to green R&D, just not going to green co's that have no hope at this time of actually turning a profit. I'm in favor of all the energy in this country being affordable for it's citizens, whether it's drilling, shale, coal, wind turbines(how much oil goes in the making & maintaining of those things?), solar, battery, nuclear, natural gas ...you name it & I want it available to the public, but not forced down our throat for an unaffordable price. I hate the govt. manipulating the tax code, giving money away or picking winners & losers in business.
