Holidays have traditionally served as a respite from discord, an opportunity to magnanimously celebrate conviviality.

    Emblematic of the disparate tones:

Trump (a defeated, disgraced, disgruntled politician whose worshipers currently infest the Republican Party) issued an Easter greeting with words such as
    Screen Shot 2024-04-01 at 8.19.05 AM.png
    “EVIL,” “SICK” “DERANGED,”
    “CORRUPT,” and “CROOKED."
The Loser, in a tirade of egomaniacal pique, lashed out at judges, special counsels, attorneys general, district attorneys, and their families.

Last Christmas, he expressed his yuletide sentiments:

    Screen Shot 2024-04-01 at 8.41.17 AM.png
“MAY THEY ROT IN HELL. AGAIN,
    MERRY CHRISTMAS!”

    The President's Easter message:

    Screen Shot 2024-04-01 at 8.14.05 AM.png
“Jill and I send our warmest wishes to Christians around the world celebrating Easter Sunday.
Easter reminds us of the power of hope and the promise of Christ’s Resurrection...
From our family to yours, happy Easter and may God bless you.”

    Last Christmas:

    Screen Shot 2024-04-01 at 8.16.18 AM.png
"From the Biden family, we wish you and your family
    peace, joy, health, and happiness.

    Merry Christmas. Happy Holidays.
And all the best in the New Year.
God bless you all. And may God protect our troops.
    Thank you."

The level of discourse coming from each is definitely in opposition to one another.

The quasi religious fervor expressed towards Don by The Following precludes the normal discernment of what is acceptable and what is not. No filter is applied to his unhinged diatribes. They are received with unconditional love. As if they descended from the heavens. Thinking otherwise risks banishment from the cult.

Just seems like leftwing projection. Remember, this is what our Whitehouse family is right now:

    But yeah, GOP civility.... lol.

    Remember when
    Reagan cited his "11th Commandment?
Reagan and O'Neil sat together laughing?
Remember in 2008 when McCain defended Obama's patriotism?

Remember in 2009 when the GOP lost it's mind when that Blackman moved into their White House?
Remember in 2010 when the formerly cordial McCain went all Tea Party?

The GOP has been on this track for over 30 years starting with Gingrich' rise Minority Leader and Limbaugh's beginning to dominate talk radio.

As time went little Rushes (Beck, Hannitty et al) became more "Rushy" than Rush ever tried.

Trump is a touchstone of their rage.
Neither he nor they can explain their rage but he and the MAGA media spend every day in stirring and inflaming that rage.

They are addicted to their rage
    It's kind of sad really.
Imagine spending all your free time looking for something to be angry about and someone to blame.

If they were not dangerous, they would be pitiable.

I love how the OP is pretending nothing caused this. No lawfare, no witchhunts, NOTHING at all motivated this except the pure "evil" of the GOP.
    What a load of crapola!!!!

its standard gas lighting, it's what is currently being fed on the MSNBC and CNN. Hence why we see so many of the same threads here.

Not only has it been banished, but banishing it seems to be the entire point and the only thing still holding "conservatives" together as a group.

    Civility?
    We're talking civility now?

The liberals need to be cautious up there on their high moral ground. It can be quite slippery up there and it's a long way down onto some hard rocky reality.

That's horseshit. I know it's your paradigm to belittle President Biden and his family continually. But to say; "this is what our Whitehouse family is right now:" and showing that picture of the President's son, exactly, epitomizes the point of this thread. That was when Hunter was in the depths of addiction which he as worked hard to overcome.

That is as disengenuous as saying this:

    upload_2024-4-1_9-40-27.jpeg

Is the mindset of ALL republicans.

    You would know.

What's the "informed" hot take on such a stupid virtue slinging insult to a religious holiday?

No. It's stupid virtue signaling from "Christian" snowflakes. Informed people know that this holiday has been celebrated on this day for over a decade. And they know that Easter is on different days every year. Only uniformed snowflakes are wetting their britches over this.

Based. We should criticize liberals for stooping to Trumpist levels.

I've never heard of this holliday. And to be honest. It's a stupid holiday.

    We have

    Gay pride month
    Gay pride week.
    Flags painted everywhere.

And now we need a different *******n holliday?

Here's a clue. There is no amount of pandering that you can give to this group of people to satiate their need for attention. So stop trying.

I take it you've never met a Catholic. They have holidays basically every day. Even non-Catholic Christians have more holidays than this. Here's a clue: pandering to rightwing snowflakes isn't going to satiate their need for attention. So stop trying. You are pandering to fake whining from pathetic, entitled snowflakes who think that society owes them obedience and deference.

Easter is a stupid holiday. It was stolen from ancient pagans which is why it is on different days every year.

It has nothing to do with the resurrection of Jesus since no one knows when, exactly, this event was to have taken place. Same with his birth.

Yes, the irony is that the far right Christians are the biggest supporters of Trump and yet Trump put out a Christmas message that said, "May they rot in hell"

Not exactly the poetic beauty of "Peace on Earth and Good Will towards men"

Right wing media and right wing politicians have been lowering the bar for twenty years.

Trump makes a fetish of being vulgar, common and offensive.

    His fans love it.
