    Hate Crime Charges in Maryland McDonald's Beating Caught On Video

    A Baltimore County grand jury has indicted two teens in a beating of a transgender woman at a McDonald's restaurant that was caught on video.

    The indictment returned Monday charges Teonna Brown with assault and hate crime in the attack on Chrissy Lee Polis at the restaurant last month. She is also charged with assaulting a customer and a McDonald's employee who tried to intervene.

    A 14-year-old girl is facing the same charges in juvenile court. Both are being held.

    Would this be a hate crime if it was just a regular ole white chick, with no extra body parts? Just wondering.....

    I am against "hate crimes". Special classifications are just wrong.

    If the standard penalties for what they did is not enough, then that is the flaw with the criminal justice code.

    There's some instances where it's clear that the person wouldn't have been beat if they weren't transgendered, gay, black, white, hispanic, et cetera. When it's been found that is the case, then I think it's appropriate to tack on harsher penalties.

    A victim class committed a hate crime on another victim class? OMG some liberal's head exploded somewhere. How does one reconcile such things.

    They have to make a hard choice. Just like when women's rights went to the back of the bus, and Islam went to the front of the liberal cause bus.

    They attacked her specifically because they perceived her to be transsexual. That is a hate crime.

    So are you also against classifications based on intent? We could do away with this involuntary manslaughter nonsense and just hang anyone who causes another persons death... right?

    I'm not under the impression that beating someone up solely because they're a tranny makes the beating any worse than it was, but justice is being served and that's what matters most.

    I am against hate crime laws and all should be equal under the law. I just hope the books get thrown at these girls for what they did. There was no reason for them to act like a bunch of animals.

    Great point.

    It doesn't matter why someone is attacked, all that matters is that someone was attacked.

    What difference does their reasoning make? Does it make the beating worse? Did the girl have more bruises? I am at a loss here.

    it's why if/when I am a victim of a crime, I'm claiming I'm "asian/pacific islander" (my mother was born on the pacific island of Vancouver, BC, Canada and if a half white/ half black prez can claim black because he's 50% when it's convenient, so can I) so that the bad guy gets a stiffer penalty just for my own revenge notions.

    if.... while fighting a black guy that attacks me, I call him the n-word, why should I be charged with the hate crime.

    I've been called "cracker" during a fight, yet no talk of hate crime.

    While I would love to agree with you, that only sounds good in theory when someone hits record and only catches the part where you knock out a black guy and then say "that's what you get you stupid (n-word)"

    its not a theory its how the law works.....can you find a case that fits your description?

    are conservatives really this ignorant about hate crime laws? or is it just an act?
