Hello, Just found this forum. I've been looking for a forum that has a good balance between liberals and conservatives of all flavors. I prefer not to hear opinions from ideologues and partisans only. We will see. I consider myself to be a conservative, both socially and economically (more moderate). A good summary of my positions are as follows Economic I reject Keynesianism, especially in its purest forms. I reject laissez-faire economics; I believe regulations are a necessary evil. I reject supply side economics as it is just another way to create bubbles. I reject ideology, whether it be libertarian, liberal, or reactionary. I believe free trade is important in a global economy I believe the government can play a positive role in the economy, especially through infrastructure, good regulations, rule of law, and education. I believe that social safety nets can be a good use of government, but only insomuch they are kept in check, and that perverse incentives are kept at a minimum. The contribute to the stability of society, which is why I think it is acceptable for them to be paid with public funds. I also believe that they are a necessary evil and should be kept to a minimum. I am against legal abortion, same-sex marriage. I tend to think that our immigration problems would be better served with comprehensive reform. This quote from Russell Kirk in A DISPASSIONATE ASSESSMENT OF LIBERTARIANS best describes my views.
