As the presidential election fast approaches, the Department of Health and Human Services is bidding out a more than $250 million contract to a communications firm as it seeks to “defeat despair and inspire hope” about the coronavirus pandemic, according to an internal HHS document obtained by POLITICO.

The document also lists the goals of the contract: “defeat despair and inspire hope, sharing best practices for businesses to operate in the new normal and instill confidence to return to work and restart the economy,” build a “coalition of spokespeople” around the country, provide important public health, therapeutic and vaccine information as the country reopens, and give Americans information on the phases of reopening.

WTF is this?? The ONLY way to 'defeat despair and inspire hope' on COVID is to eliminate or mitigate the ****ing COIVD.

How messed up is this?? How many tests could $250 million dollars buy?? How much unemployment or stimulus? I know by today's whack standards of money, $250 million isn't all that much, but is THIS the way to spend government money??

We ALREADY have people doing the work in bold above... they're called governors... Just because the Federal Government failed so miserably at informing people doesn't mean people weren't informed elsewhere.

Conservatives?? People who push for responsible fiscal spending??? Party formerly of LESS government interactions in your lives. Take off your partisan hat for 3 minutes and then tell me THIS is a good use of taxpayer money....

I agree that it could go alot further than it is and it's not the best use of the money. But it's not a nefarious use of it.

Besides I'd like to think that the scientific community is getting adequate funds to research vaccines and treatments.

I thought about that, but I don't think so... this is a current event about potential government mismanagement. I think the COVID forum should be more on the virus itself, not attempts to PR the virus..

But if it's moved, it's moved..

I didn't say nefarious (until we see the Kushner PR firm gets the contract). I said poor use of government money and you seemed to agree, so it's a banner day here at PF.com...

The majority of money spent anywhere around COVID should go directly to people and businesses directly affected, not a PR campaign.

Who says that 250 million is being spent on this instead of tests and/or stimulus?

Ha! You said "Good use of tax payer money" I needed a laugh! Unfortunately, the government has a long history of taking our money and turning it into despair.

Conservatives push for smaller government and less spending until they are in control
Democrats push for helping the sick poor until they get the money.

The only difference between the two parties is the amount they steal and who they give it to.

The only mention of "tests" and "stimulus" in the OP are in what I assume is your commentary.

Just out of curiosity, which forum would you post this hypothetical thread in?

"Trump Shot and Killed.... Final words ... 'I wish I could have fixed Coronavirus'"

    Current Events or Coronavirus??

For those who have lost their business and life savings, it's all over, unless they were to apportion that $250 million and give it to them.

The best way to defeat despair in this matter is for the government to admit it was a scam and prosecute the perps and those who profited from it.

    Ain't gonna happen.

This money is just more money thrown down the drain, and lip service.
